Mouton Père et Fils: Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie, father to son
Mouton Père et Fils
Growers in Condrieu, in the northern Rhône, from father to son. A small hillside estate of around 9 hectares, worked by hand: Viognier in Condrieu, Syrah in Côte-Rôtie.
At Condrieu, you don’t drive through the vineyard, you climb it. It is on these vertiginous slopes of the northern Rhône, laid out in terraces known locally as chaillés, that the Mouton family grows Viognier and Syrah by hand, row after row. Three generations have followed one another: André, then Jean-Claude, who joined him in 1989, and today Bryan, since 2020. Just nine hectares, two great appellations, Condrieu in white, Côte-Rôtie in red, and one fixed idea: to reveal the fruit without ever betraying the terroir. True grower’s wines, available direct on Avenue des Vins.
A Condrieu family, from father to son
Mouton Père et Fils is, above all, a story of transmission. Trained in biology and then oenology, Jean-Claude Mouton joined his father André on the family estate in 1989. Together, driven by a shared passion for the vine and for wine, they grew the vineyard on the slopes of Condrieu.
In 2020, it was Bryan’s turn, Jean-Claude’s son, to join the adventure: the third generation to tend these slopes. The estate stays deliberately small, around nine hectares, where every parcel counts. A human-scale estate, true to its name, in the service of a great northern Rhône terroir.
The estate’s philosophy
“Complicity, experience, novelty to create a quality wine”: the family motto says it all. Serious, respectful work, mindful of the soils and of yields, carried out by hand where machines cannot go. And a constant aim: to reveal each grape without forcing it, to put the fruit first, and to preserve the character of the terroir.

The steep slopes of the northern Rhône
The estate unfolds on some of the steepest slopes of the northern Rhône, around Condrieu. Here the vines cling to stone terraces, the chaillés, on granite soils that no machine can work: everything is done by hand, from soil work to harvest.
In Condrieu, the family grows Viognier on the Côte Bonnette and Côte Châtillon sites. In Côte-Rôtie, Syrah occupies the famous Côte Blonde, on the slopes of Bassenon and Tupin-Semons. Two neighbouring, complementary terroirs among the most renowned of the northern Rhône.
Two great northern Rhône appellations
AOC Condrieu (Viognier) · AOC Côte-Rôtie (Syrah) · IGP Collines Rhodaniennes
Condrieu is one of the cradles of Viognier, a rare and aromatic white; Côte-Rôtie ranks among the most prestigious Syrahs of the Rhône Valley. Given its small volumes, the estate makes confidential cuvées here.
Viognier and Syrah, two Rhône grapes
Two grapes, two colours, one same hand: Viognier for the whites, Syrah for the reds.
Viognier, in white
Condrieu - Côte Bonnette · Côte Châtillon
The emblematic grape of the northern Rhône, Viognier gives Condrieu rich, fragrant whites. The Mouton family seeks above all its fruit and finesse, without ever overdoing it.
Syrah, in red
Côte-Rôtie - Côte Blonde · Bassenon · Tupin-Semons
On the slopes of Côte-Rôtie, Syrah gives deep, structured reds built for cellaring, a refined expression of this great grape of the northern Rhône.
Hand work, as close as possible to the fruit
On slopes this steep, mechanisation is impossible: the vines are worked by hand, in terraces, from the soil to the harvest. Demanding, respectful work, mindful of the soils and of yields, that takes time and attention, row by row.
In the cellar, the aim is the same as in the vines: to reveal the fruit and the purity of each grape without forcing it, for wines true to their origin, a precise, fragrant Viognier and a deep, refined Syrah.
The Mouton Père et Fils range
A short, clear range, true to a small hillside estate: great whites from Condrieu, a Côte-Rôtie red, and more accessible IGP cuvées.
Condrieu - Viognier (white)
Côte Bonnette · Côte Châtillon
The estate’s signature whites, 100% Viognier, from the slopes of Condrieu. Aromatic, delicate wines in the purest northern Rhône style.
Côte-Rôtie - Syrah (red)
Côte Blonde (Bassenon, Tupin-Semons)
The estate’s great red, 100% Syrah, born on the Côte Blonde. A deep, elegant wine, built for the table and for cellaring.
IGP Collines Rhodaniennes
Viognier · Syrah
More accessible cuvées, in Viognier and Syrah, to discover the Mouton style straight away.
Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie, IGP Collines Rhodaniennes - direct from the grower, careful delivery

Frequently asked questions about Mouton Père et Fils
Where is Domaine Mouton Père et Fils located ?
The estate is in Condrieu (postcode 69420), on the right bank of the Rhône, in the northern Rhône vineyards. It works around 9 hectares of slopes in the Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie appellations.
Which wines does Mouton Père et Fils produce ?
The estate produces Condrieu (a dry white, 100% Viognier), Côte-Rôtie (a red, 100% Syrah) and more accessible IGP Collines Rhodaniennes cuvées (Viognier and Syrah).
What is Condrieu ?
Condrieu is a northern Rhône appellation reserved for dry white wine made exclusively from Viognier. It is prized for its aromatic richness, flowers, stone fruit, and its rounded palate. The estate grows it on the Côte Bonnette and Côte Châtillon slopes.
What is the difference between Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie ?
They are two neighbouring northern Rhône appellations of different colours: Condrieu is a white wine, 100% Viognier, while Côte-Rôtie is a red, 100% Syrah. The estate makes both, on steep terraced slopes.
How long can you cellar these wines ?
As a rule, Condrieu (Viognier) is enjoyed for its fruit, rather in its early years, though fine cuvées can evolve; Côte-Rôtie (Syrah), more structured, is a cellaring wine that rewards patience. Store bottles lying down, away from light and cool.
What food pairs with a Condrieu ?
Condrieu, a dry and aromatic white, pairs with fish and seafood, poultry in cream sauces, mild cheeses and spicy or Asian cuisine. Serve it cool, around 10-12 °C, to preserve its fruit and roundness.
What food pairs with a Côte-Rôtie ?
Côte-Rôtie, a Syrah red, goes with red meats, lamb, feathered game and mature cheeses. Served around 16-17 °C, after some aeration, it reveals its notes of black fruit and spice.
At what temperature should the wines be served ?
Condrieu (white) is served cool, around 10-12 °C; Côte-Rôtie (red) rather at 16-17 °C, ideally after letting it open up. Avoid serving the white too cold, which would mask its aromas.
How can I order Mouton Père et Fils wines direct ?
Avenue des Vins lets you order the estate’s wines directly, with no middleman, as close as possible to the cellar-door price. Delivery is handled with care across France and Europe, the most direct way to discover this small Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie estate.
