Les Vins de Fontfroide: a thousand years of history, a sacred terroir, exceptional cuvees

Les Vins de Fontfroide - AOC Corbières, the Cistercian abbey's vineyard, a pink-sandstone terroir

Les Vins de Fontfroide carry on a thousand-year heritage around the Cistercian abbey, in AOC Corbières, on a rare pink-sandstone terroir.

At the heart of the Corbières, around the Cistercian abbey of Fontfroide, the Vins de Fontfroide carry on a heritage of more than a thousand years. A unique pink-sandstone terroir, a modern vision by Laure de Chevron Villette: cuvees of rare authenticity, to discover direct on Avenue des Vins.

At the heart of the Corbières, in a protected landscape where the garrigue meets the hills, the Vins de Fontfroide carry on a heritage more than a thousand years old. The story begins around the Cistercian abbey of Fontfroide, a Romanesque jewel set in the heart of Cathar country. The monks, following the rule of Saint Benedict, already cultivated the vine for their daily ration of wine.

Over the centuries, nature, spirituality and human work shaped a rare vineyard, intimately tied to the history of the place, where each plot still seems to echo the silence of the cloisters.

A terroir sculpted by stone and light

The vines of Fontfroide rest on sandy-clay soils from a unique pink sandstone. This bedrock gives the wines tension, aromatic finesse and fruity intensity. Sheltered by the hills and bathed in Mediterranean light, the vine flourishes in a preserved environment, offering cuvees of exceptional authenticity.

Here, the garrigue perfumes the air, the cicadas set the rhythm of the days and the vineyard shares the gentleness of the cloister walkways where the wind still murmurs.

A modern vision led by Laure de Chevron Villette

At the head of the estate, Laure de Chevron Villette has shaped the modern identity of the Vins de Fontfroide. Her aim: to make this thousand-year-old terroir one of the oenological jewels of the Languedoc.

She creates cuvees that blend monastic heritage, contemporary precision and pure expression of the terroir. Each wine is conceived as an entrance into the world of Fontfroide: its landscapes, its serenity, its incomparable light.
