Domaine de la Grand’Vigne – Five generations of winemakers in the heart of the Var
In the heart of the Var, on the sun-drenched lands of the Coteaux-Varois-en-Provence appellation, Domaine de la Grand’Vigne embodies the soul of a family vineyard deeply rooted in its territory. Across 15 hectares farmed organically, this Provençal estate tells a story of transmission, patience and deep respect for the land.
A family history dating back to the late 19th century
Founded at the end of the 19th century, La Grand’Vigne has stood the test of time without ever breaking the bond between vine and soil. Today, the estate is run by Roland Mistre, winemaker and oenologist, heir to Henri, Louis and Raymond.
Alongside him, his sons Mathieu and Romain are now fully involved, ensuring the continuity of a unique family savoir-faire. The fifth generation of Provençal winemakers is firmly underway, guided by a clear vision: preserving authenticity while looking confidently toward the future.
A Provençal vineyard with a strong identity
Located in Brignoles, along the ancient Via Aurelia, the vineyard lies at an altitude of around 240 metres. The climate is distinctly Mediterranean, yet without direct maritime influence, as the surrounding hills protect the vines from sea winds.
The result is cold, vigorous winters, hot and dry summers, and significant day–night temperature variations—ideal conditions for preserving aromatic freshness and natural balance in the grapes.
Two terroirs, two complementary expressions
Clay-limestone soils dating from the Triassic period give rise to two distinct and complementary terroirs.
The La Grand’Vigne terroir: Located at the foot of the slope, this terroir is characterised by deep red clays rich in aluminium silicates, originating from the former bauxite basin of Brignoles. These deep soils provide resistance to summer drought and contribute structure, roundness and balance to the wines.
The Les Fournerys terroir: Surrounded by pine forests, garrigue, juniper and cade bushes, this terroir is composed of light, free-draining and very stony soils. It produces wines with greater tension, marked minerality and a strong sense of place.
Organic viticulture, faithful to living soils
Domaine de la Grand’Vigne has been committed for many years to demanding organic viticulture. The vines are carefully guided, never forced, in order to preserve soil balance and grape health.
This approach results in healthy, well-balanced grapes, perfectly suited to expressing the authentic character of the Coteaux-Varois-en-Provence appellation.
Precise winemaking focused on freshness
Winemaking is carried out with great precision to preserve aromatic brightness and the natural freshness of the wines.
White wine vinification: Rolle (Vermentino), Ugni Blanc and Grenache Blanc undergo cold pre-fermentation maceration in an inert environment, followed by temperature-controlled fermentation and ageing on fine lees. Early bottling preserves finesse and aromatic purity.
Rosé wine vinification: Rosé wines, made from Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah, are harvested at night or early in the morning. Direct pressing, low-temperature fermentation and partial ageing on lees result in fresh, elegant and perfectly balanced rosés.
The cuvées of Domaine de la Grand’Vigne
The estate produces exclusively AOC Coteaux-Varois-en-Provence wines, divided into several cuvées reflecting its terroirs.
La Grand’Vigne traditional cuvée: Available in red, rosé and white, this cuvée faithfully reflects the estate’s identity and its balanced, approachable style.
Les Fournerys selected cuvée: Produced in red, rosé and white, this cuvée comes from the stoniest terroir and offers wines with greater structure, expression and character.
Cuvée Florian: An autumn rosé aged in acacia barrels, produced in limited quantities, subtle, original and elegant.
Confidential and limited cuvées:
– Muscat: sweet white wine made from Muscat à petits grains
– Pinot Gris: dry white wine (formerly Tokay)
– Castets: red wine with no sulphites or additives, made from a rare and pure grape variety
