Domaine Valambelle: a family and organic story in the heart of the schists of Faugères
Domaine Valambelle
A 24-hectare family estate (including 18 ha of vines) on the schist hillsides of Laurens, in AOC Faugeres. Certified organic (ECOCERT) since 2007, run by the Abbal family (5th generation). Syrah and southern grapes on schist, 100% manual harvesting. Mineral, generous cuvees, to discover direct.
Since 2003, Domaine Valambelle has flourished on the schist hillsides of Laurens, in the heart of the Faugeres appellation. Born of passionate family work, the estate today covers 24 hectares, including 18 hectares of vines planted in the 1980s by Michel Abbal. This land, once scrubland, was patiently cleared to reveal a vibrant, living terroir, bathed in sunshine and marked by garrigue aromas.
A family story tied to the schists of Laurens
Each parcel tells a story: that of a family deeply tied to this rough, sensual and generous Mediterranean nature. The 6 hectares surrounding the village of Laurens further strengthen this local, authentic identity. Over the generations, Domaine Valambelle has preserved the essential: an intimate relationship with nature, a know-how passed on in simplicity and exactingness, and a modern vision of organic viticulture. The winemaking is led by Thierry Abbal, fifth generation of winegrowers, together with his sister Marie: a duo that carries on a rare know-how, deeply rooted in the soul of the estate.
The strength of schist, the soul of a family, the elegance of organic
Each bottle offers a piece of this landscape: the warm stones, the wind of the garrigues, the steep hillsides and the memory of those who came before. Here, nothing is standardised: each cuvee bears the signature of a vibrant terroir and demanding family work.

An exemplary organic commitment since 2007
Domaine Valambelle has always placed respect for nature at the centre of its work. This commitment became official in 2007 with the ECOCERT organic farming certification, an approach that goes well beyond a simple label. Today, every gesture, from pruning to harvest, is designed to preserve the life of the schist soils, the surrounding biodiversity, the purity of the fruit and the sincerity of the Languedoc terroir. The harvest is 100% manual, followed by rigorous selection at the cellar entrance, to keep only the finest grapes.
A rich grape palette, faithful to the Faugères appellation
The reds and roses of Domaine Valambelle shine around Syrah, accompanied by Grenache, Carignan, Cinsault and Mourvedre. For the whites, the palette inspires freshness and elegance with Roussanne, Vermentino and Grenache blanc. This diversity allows the making of expressive, balanced, generous cuvees, where the typical notes of garrigue, sun-warmed schist and ripe fruit come through.

What is the Faugères appellation?
Faugeres is a Languedoc appellation, north of Beziers, renowned for its unique schist soils. This schist terroir, warmed by the sun and marked by garrigue aromas, gives expressive, mineral and generous red and rose wines, built around Syrah and the grapes of the South.
Which grapes does Domaine Valambelle grow?
The reds and roses shine around Syrah, accompanied by Grenache, Carignan, Cinsault and Mourvedre. For the whites, the palette combines Roussanne, Vermentino and Grenache blanc. This diversity allows expressive, balanced and generous cuvees.
What are the cuvees of Domaine Valambelle?
The estate offers six cuvees in AOC Faugeres, all organic: Angolet Rose, Angolet Rouge, Millepeyres, Florentin Abbal, La Petite Vendangeuse and the Grande Cuvee, the estate's signature. Each expresses, in its own way, the mineral strength of the schists of Faugeres.

Why does schist make the specificity of Faugères wines?
Schist is a rock that warms up quickly and drains water perfectly. At Valambelle, these schist soils, on steep hillsides once covered in scrubland, force the vine to sink its roots deep and give the wines minerality, freshness and an aromatic signature of garrigue and warm stone.
Is the harvest at Domaine Valambelle manual?
Yes: the harvest is 100% manual, followed by rigorous selection at the cellar entrance. This care, together with certified organic farming and parcel-by-parcel work, preserves the life of the schist soils, biodiversity and the purity of the fruit.
Which Domaine Valambelle cuvee to discover first to explore the mineral strength of the schists of Faugères?
For a first approach, the supple, moreish Angolet Rouge or the Angolet rose lead the way; Millepeyres and Florentin Abbal reveal Faugeres minerality; and the Grande Cuvee, the estate's signature, expresses all the strength of the schist. To each their own entry into the world of Valambelle.
