Domaine Saint Côme: A Living Vineyard and Preserved Land in the Heart of La Cadière-d’Azur

A Winemaker Guided by History and a Return to the Land.

In La Cadière-d’Azur, following the path of Saint-Côme is enough to feel the soul of the estate: a ribbon of land lined with cypress trees, stone terraces, ancient olive trees and sunlit vines. Just a few kilometres from the sea, Joël Poutet cultivates a vineyard that is committed, sensitive and firmly turned toward the future.

On 2 hectares that he farms himself — within a historic 16-hectare family estate certified organic — he tends the vines like a precious garden, refusing herbicides and pesticides. Every choice is made to protect the natural balance of the site, encourage biodiversity and support the vine in its rhythm, never against it.

A Family Legacy Spanning Eight Generations

The story of Domaine Saint Côme stretches across eight generations. Joël’s grandparents were already vinifying here, between La Cadière-d’Azur and Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, while the other side of the family cultivated vines and fruit trees in Duplex.

After a career as a physical education teacher, Joël felt the call of the land and returned to his roots. Patiently, parcel by parcel, he began in 2003 to rebuild the scattered vineyard of his ancestors.

In 2021, he completed his first vinification — a defining moment where the past, present and future met in a cuvée symbolising rebirth and transmission.

An Exceptional Terroir Shaped by Triassic Marl and Limestone

Located just three kilometres from the sea, Domaine Saint Côme benefits from a rare terroir composed of Triassic marl and limestone. This ancient soil, combined with maritime influence and a bright microclimate, produces wines that are deep, vibrant and naturally balanced.

Joël’s philosophy is simple: reveal the terroir rather than restrain it. Agroforestry, natural ground cover, mixed grazing, physiological pruning, lunar-guided interventions… each choice aligns with living forces and preserves the beauty of the landscape.

A Vineyard Guinguette: Sharing Wine, Sharing Life

Domaine Saint Côme is not just a place of production. It is a place of encounters — a vibrant, welcoming space where wines are tasted under a centuries-old oak tree, surrounded by animals and olive trees.

The guinguette-caveau, both wine bar and discovery space, welcomes visitors around the estate’s cuvées:

  • AOC Bandol Rouge
  • AOC Côtes de Provence Rosé (Mourvèdre, Grenache, Cinsault)
  • AOC Côtes de Provence Rouge with no added sulphites
  • Old vines of Carignan, Mourvèdre and Grenache

Sincere, expressive wines crafted with respect, patience and a genuine artistic sensibility.

Domaine Saint Côme: Between Heritage, Modernity and Commitment

Today, Joël farms the estate’s full 16 hectares organically, including the plots delivered to the cooperative. Three recently acquired hectares are currently in conversion. The estate continues to evolve with coherence: protecting nature, honouring history and producing wines that tell the story of this land of light.
