Domaine Roman : A family history serving the terroir, across six generations

Domaine Roman tells a rare, patient story deeply rooted in the soils of the Vaucluse. A family history passed down since 1885, where each generation has added its own stone to the building without ever betraying what matters most: respect for the soil and for living ecosystems.

It all begins when Martinien, Arnaud’s great-great-grandfather, takes over the farm of the Marquis de Causans. At the time, the estate relies on mixed farming—cereals and sheep breeding shaping everyday life. The vine enters the family story much later, in 1965, when Ginette and André, the grandparents, plant the first vineyard plots intended for cooperative cellars.

From vine growing to a true winegrower identity

A decisive turning point comes in 1988. Céline and Jean-Yves, Arnaud’s parents, take over the estate and make a structuring choice: to focus entirely on viticulture and gradually commit to organic farming.

This shift brings a new way of working—observing more, intervening less, and letting natural cycles guide decisions.

In 2012, Arnaud joins the family adventure. With experience gained in California and Australia, he brings a modern, precise perspective while remaining faithful to the values passed down. His ambition is clear: produce identity-driven wines that faithfully translate vineyard work, without artifice.

The first vintage under the Domaine Roman name is released in 2015, from a plot in Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu—a founding milestone.

An organic vineyard at the heart of Rhône appellations

Today, Domaine Roman covers 25 hectares in Jonquières, between Avignon and Vaison-la-Romaine. The vineyard spans several major appellations: Côtes du Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu and Vacqueyras.

All vineyards are farmed organically, preserving soil vitality and encouraging natural expression of grape varieties. The Mediterranean climate, moderated by the mistral wind, offers ideal conditions for Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, as well as southern varieties such as Carignan, Marselan, Caladoc, Clairette and Grenache Blanc.

Vacqueyras, Plan de Dieu, Côtes du Rhône: wines rooted in their place

Vacqueyras Rouge – Garrigue Sud: From clay-limestone garrigue soils, this organic Vacqueyras blends Grenache and Syrah in equal parts. Hand-harvested, vinified at low temperature and aged six months in stainless steel tanks, it offers an elegant, structured wine with ripe fruit and fine spice aromas.

Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu Rouge: Sourced from old Grenache and Mourvèdre vines planted on ancient pebbly soils over red clay, this wine fully expresses the depth of Plan de Dieu. Long maceration and stainless steel aging result in a structured wine with smooth tannins and persistent spicy notes.

Côtes du Rhône Rouge: A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Marselan, this organic Côtes du Rhône delivers generous fruit, with notes of blackberry, violet and soft spices. The palate is fleshy, approachable and convivial.

Côtes du Rhône Blanc: Made from Clairette Blanche and Grenache Blanc, this cuvée charms with its roundness and exotic fruit aromas. Vinified in stainless steel, it retains freshness and balance.

Vin de France Blanc – 100% Clairette: A singular, floral and generous wine highlighting Clairette in its purest expression. Low-temperature fermentation preserves aromatic brightness and finesse.

Côtes du Rhône Rosé “Cha’Ladoc”:Predominantly Caladoc, this organic rosé séduces with its pale grapefruit-hued color, citrus aromas and fresh, gourmand palate—a joyful summer wine.

A living estate, focused on the future

Domaine Roman extends beyond vineyards. Since 2008, the family has also cultivated 700 organic almond trees (Lauranne and Ferragnès), as part of a coherent and environmentally respectful diversification strategy.

Each generation has passed down more than land: a way of being a farmer, a winegrower, and today a wine artisan. A growing estate, faithful to its roots and firmly oriented toward the future.
