Domaine Mathias: The Soul of Southern Burgundy in Organic Viticulture

Located in Chaintré, in the heart of the Mâconnais region, Domaine Mathias is a family-owned estate that has upheld the art of winemaking in Southern Burgundy for six generations. Committed to organic farming since 2010, the estate embodies a perfect harmony between respect for the land, ancestral know-how, and exceptional wines.

A Family of Passionate Winemakers Since 1894

It all began with Antoine Charvet, a carpenter and winemaker, who was awarded a diploma in 1894 for the quality of his white wine in Chaintré. Since then, each generation—from Jean-Marie to Thibault Mathias today—has contributed to the estate, developing it with a modern and sustainable vision.

In 1992, Gilles and Béatrice Mathias took over the reins, followed by their son Thibault in 2016. Thibault now represents the new generation, blending family heritage with innovation—symbolized by the birth of Jules Mathias in 2019.

A Precious Terroir of Limestone and History

The estate spans 12 hectares of sun-drenched clay-limestone hillsides, offering ideal conditions for expressing Chardonnay, and also Gamay for red wines. The southern Burgundy microclimate, with its warm days and cool nights, allows the creation of dry, elegant white wines with minerality and aromas of citrus, white flowers, and hazelnut.

Prestigious Appellations from the Mâconnais

- Pouilly-Fuissé: refined, full-bodied, and mineral—a flagship wine of the estate.

- Pouilly-Vinzelles: a complex white with great length, perfect for gourmet cuisine.

- Mâcon-Chaintré White: floral and fruity, with beautiful freshness.

- Mâcon-Chaintré Red: light, crisp, and elegant, made from Gamay.

All wines have been certified organic since the 2013 vintage, and are vinified and bottled at the estate.
