Domaine Les Roques de Cana: The Revival of a Mythical Terroir on the Causse Plateau

A Historic Terroir That Once Shaped Europe’s Finest Wines.  Perched 300 meters above sea level on the limestone plateau of the Causse, Domaine Les Roques de Cana owes its rebirth to Martial Guiette and a group of 24 passionate believers in the forgotten potential of this land. Their ambition is clear: restore the prestige this terroir enjoyed in the 18th century, when Emperors, French Kings, and Tsars praised the excellence of its wines.

Since Antiquity, wines from this clay-limestone and ferruginous plateau have been known for their power, freshness, and depth.

Malbec—descendant of the Aminaea grape described by Virgil—built its legend here:

  • Emperor Probus authorizing the replanting of Cahors vines in the 3rd century.
  • King François I declaring these wines “the best in the world.”
  • The Popes entrusting Cahors winemakers with the future of what would become Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
  • Tsar Peter the Great making it the official wine of the imperial court and Orthodox liturgy.

Domaine Les Roques de Cana stands as a guardian of this millenary heritage, striving to reveal its full power.

A Modern Renaissance for a Sleeping Giant

The vineyard now extends across clay-limestone soils rich in red and yellow clays and ferruginous minerals. These soils—among the most studied in Europe by LAMS specialists—offer a unique minerality and a rare freshness within the Cahors appellation.

This powerful terroir produces wines with extremely low yields, where finesse meets depth: the unmistakable signature of Les Roques de Cana.

Sustainable Viticulture to Protect a Living Heritage

The estate practices sustainable farming, strictly limiting inputs and treatments. The goal is simple: allow the vine to express the terroir in its purest form.

Thoughtful, measured cultural practices strengthen the soil’s natural balance and ensure healthy, concentrated, aromatic fruit.

Advanced Winemaking to Honor Finesse

To elevate this exceptional terroir, the estate has equipped itself with high-precision tools: open stainless-steel vats, automated punch-down systems, sorting tables, instant thermal control, and controlled micro-oxygenation.

Each cuvée benefits from a tailored aging process:

  • Vin des Noces – aged in cement vats, highlighting purity of fruit, freshness, and the minerality of the Causse.
  • Sanguis Christi – aged in fine-grain barrels, combining structure, elegance, and depth.
  • Graal Sanctus – aged in extra-fine barrels and sourced from the estate’s best parcels; an exceptional, intense, and refined wine.
  • 1305 – an unoaked, vibrant wine that expresses the raw essence of the Roques terroir.

These choices preserve freshness, refine tannins, and shape elegant wines that remain true to the estate’s promise: finesse, freshness, and purity.

A Legendary Vineyard with Its Eyes on the Future

Les Roques de Cana is more than a vineyard—it is a story reborn. A place where tradition, spirituality, and technical precision unite to craft deeply distinctive wines.

A domaine that revives the memory of Malbec while writing a bold new chapter for the Cahors appellation.
