Domaine Lacour, terroir Burgundies crafted father and son since 1989
Domaine Lacour
A family estate in Saint-Sernin-du-Plain (Saone-et-Loire), founded in 1989 by Fabrice Lacour, today with his son Antonin. 15 ha in Cotes-du-Couchois, Maranges and Hautes-Cotes-de-Beaune. Pinot noir, Chardonnay, Aligoté, Gamay. Reasoned agriculture.
30 minutes from Beaune, between the Cote-de-Beaune and the Cote Chalonnaise, the village of Saint-Sernin-du-Plain hides a winegrowing history dating back to 1622. It is on this deep clay-limestone soil, in this corner of Burgundy that tourists do not yet know well enough, that Fabrice Lacour planted his first vines in 1989. Today, his son Antonin works alongside him, and together, father and son, they produce artisanal Burgundies that tell this land with a rare sincerity. From planting to bottling, every gesture is done by hand, for 15,000 to 20,000 bottles a year, not one too many.
A history of transmission, from the land to the bottle
In 1989, Fabrice Lacour created the estate on the heights of Saint-Sernin-du-Plain, in Saone-et-Loire, at the heart of the Cotes-du-Couchois. He started with 3 hectares, a spade and a conviction: this terroir deserves better than to be ignored. Research revealed that winegrowing ancestors worked this same land as early as 1622, a continuity that gives the project an unexpected historical depth. In 2017, Antonin, after studies in viticulture and oenology, joined his father, not as a hurried successor but as a partner. The two work every stage together: winter pruning, spring disbudding, manual harvests in autumn, winemaking in the cellar. A single additional person is employed year-round, by choice: to keep the estate on a human scale and every bottle traceable to the plot.
The estate's philosophy
We raise our wines in reasoned agriculture and are committed to respecting the soils and the vines as much as possible, in particular by reducing inputs. Antonin Lacour. Reasoned agriculture, documented and improved each year: -80% herbicide, -35% phytosanitary treatments, a deliberate path towards an ever more soil-respectful viticulture.

The Côtes-du-Couchois: the overlooked Burgundy that deserves your attention
Wedged between the south of the Cote-de-Beaune and the border of the Cote Chalonnaise, the Cotes-du-Couchois form one of the most discreet, and most promising, appellations of Burgundy. In Saint-Sernin-du-Plain, the estate's vines grow on clay-limestone slopes whose thick, dense earth retains water, resists drought and feeds roots that go down to seek the blue rock in the subsoil. This deep soil, hard to work but exceptional for Pinot noir, gives wines with a generous substance, fruity and slightly spicy notes. Further south, the plots of Cheilly-les-Maranges bring an added dimension: stonier soils, polished riverbed pebbles, and the elegance specific to the Cote-de-Beaune.
Craftsmanship as method, improvement as engine
At Domaine Lacour, reasoned agriculture is not a communication label, it is a measured, documented trajectory, improved each year. The winemaking reflects the same demand for authenticity: the alcoholic fermentations are conducted by indigenous yeasts, those naturally present on the grapes, to preserve the expression of the terroir rather than standardise the aromas. The harvests are mostly manual. And the ageing is the subject of permanent reflection: from the terracotta jar for the Cuvée Amphore to the French oak barrel for the Maranges, each vessel is chosen to reveal, not to mask.
Côtes-du-Couchois: Cuvée Amphore & Sous le Clos
Bourgogne AOP - Pinot noir
Cuvée Amphore: aged 8 months in a terracotta jar on 50-to-60-year-old vines, the Pinot noir fruit bursts on the palate, a fresh, direct experience, to drink young. Sous le Clos: the single-plot expression of the lieu-dit in Saint-Sernin, the power of the clay-limestone soil and Burgundian finesse.
Maranges La Croix de Bois
Maranges AOP - Pinot noir, 12 months oak barrel
The estate's prestige and cellaring cuvee. On the stony clay-limestone soils of Cheilly-les-Maranges, 35-year-old south-facing vines give a powerful Maranges: spicy, warm nose, ripe fruit and discreet oak. To decant or cellar for 4 to 5 years.
The Hautes-Côtes-de-Beaune: Red & White
Bourgogne AOP - Pinot noir and Chardonnay
Hautes-Cotes-de-Beaune Red: a Pinot noir from the heights, barrel-aged, all finesse (cherry, sweet spices). Hautes-Cotes-de-Beaune White: Chardonnay from the heights, freshness and roundness from barrel ageing (butter, hazelnut, citrus), a gastronomic white.
The whites Les Rompeys & Aligoté
Bourgogne AOP - Chardonnay and Aligoté
Bourgogne White Les Rompeys: a fresh, fruity single-plot Chardonnay, immediately pleasing. Bourgogne Aligoté: the historic white grape of Burgundy, lively and mineral, with notes of citrus and white flowers, a must for a Burgundian Kir.
Coteaux Bourguignons Rosé & Crémant de Bourgogne
Gamay 75% - conviviality and celebration
The pressed rosé, based on Gamay (75%), all freshness and gourmet fruit, for aperitifs and relaxed meals. The Cremant de Bourgogne Brut, made by the traditional method, brings the festive touch: fine bubbles and a lively palate.

Frequently asked questions about Domaine Lacour
Where is Domaine Lacour located?
Domaine Lacour is based in Saint-Sernin-du-Plain, in Saone-et-Loire (71), 30 minutes from Beaune. It lies at the heart of the Cotes-du-Couchois, on the border between the Cote-de-Beaune to the north and the Cote Chalonnaise to the south, which also allows it to claim the Maranges and Hautes-Cotes-de-Beaune appellations.
What is the Bourgogne Côtes-du-Couchois appellation?
The Cotes-du-Couchois is a Bourgogne appellation located in Saone-et-Loire, between the Cote-de-Beaune and the Cote Chalonnaise. Long overlooked, it produces Pinot noirs on deep clay-limestone soils of remarkable expressiveness: powerful, fruity and slightly spicy wines, often cheaper than their more famous Burgundian neighbours.
What is the Cuvée Amphore and why is it different?
The Cuvée Amphore is aged 8 months in a terracotta jar, a material that breathes three times more than wood. This choice preserves the freshness and purity of the Pinot noir fruit without oaky notes: the aromas burst on the palate in an intense, direct way. It is a cuvee to drink young, within 2 years, a rarity in Burgundy.
What food pairings for the Burgundies of Domaine Lacour?
The Pinot noirs (Amphore, Sous le Clos) pair with roast poultry, mushrooms, washed-rind cheeses. The Maranges La Croix de Bois, more structured, calls for game, beef bourguignon or a platter of aged cheeses. The Chardonnays accompany fish in sauce and poultry in cream; the Aligoté, lively, is ideal as a Kir or with seafood.
Does Domaine Lacour practise organic farming?
The estate is in reasoned agriculture, not yet certified organic, but in a documented and measured continuous-improvement approach. Fabrice and Antonin Lacour have reduced their herbicide use by 80% and their phytosanitary treatments by 35%, and continue this path of respect for the soils.
What is the difference between the estate's Maranges and Côtes-du-Couchois?
Both are artisanal Burgundian Pinot noirs, but their terroirs and ageing set them apart. The Cotes-du-Couchois (Amphore, Sous le Clos) express the fruit and freshness of their deep clay-limestone soils. The Maranges La Croix de Bois, aged 12 months in barrel on a stonier soil, develops more power, spice and structure: it is the cellaring cuvee, to wait 4 to 5 years.
Which Domaine Lacour wine to choose to start with Burgundy?
The Cuvée Amphore is the ideal gateway: fruity, direct, accessible from opening, it explains Pinot noir without intimidation. For the whites, the Bourgogne White Les Rompeys offers the freshness and minerality of Chardonnay; and for a first festive experience, the estate's Cremant de Bourgogne Brut.
Who are the winegrowers of Domaine Lacour?
Fabrice Lacour, who founded the estate in 1989 in Saint-Sernin-du-Plain, and his son Antonin, who joined him in 2017 after studies in viticulture and oenology. Father and son work every stage together, from pruning to harvest, with a single additional person employed year-round.
Which grapes does Domaine Lacour grow?
Four grapes over 15 hectares: Pinot noir and Gamay for the reds and rosés, Chardonnay and Aligoté for the whites. They give nine wines, from the Cuvée Amphore to the cellar-worthy Maranges, via a lively Aligoté and a festive Cremant.
Can Domaine Lacour wines be cellared?
It depends on the cuvees: the Cuvée Amphore and the fresh whites (Les Rompeys, Aligoté) are enjoyed young, on the fruit; the Maranges La Croix de Bois, aged 12 months in oak barrel, is the cellaring cuvee, to wait 4 to 5 years to reveal all its complexity.
What is the Bourgogne Aligoté of Domaine Lacour?
Aligoté is the historic white grape of Burgundy, often forgotten behind Chardonnay. The one from Domaine Lacour offers a fine liveliness, a fresh acidity and notes of citrus and white flowers. A must for a Burgundian Kir, or to drink alone, chilled, on the terrace.
Can you buy Domaine Lacour wines directly?
Yes: the cuvees of Fabrice and Antonin Lacour (Cotes-du-Couchois, Maranges, Hautes-Cotes-de-Beaune, Aligoté, Cremant) are available here, in short circuit and direct from the property in Saint-Sernin-du-Plain, shipped with care, across France and Europe.
