Domaine L’Autre Bout du Monde: A New Breath of Organic Wine in Savoie
A story born from returning to one’s roots. On the shores of Lake Bourget, in the majestic landscapes of Savoie, Domaine L’Autre Bout du Monde traces a unique winegrowing adventure — born from an old dream and a passion nurtured at the other end of the world.
After years spent in countries where millet beers, palm spirits and other distant traditions reign far from the world of wine, the path eventually led the winemaker back to Europe, then to Savoie… and finally into the vineyards.
An immersion in Belgium soon revealed the magic of fermentation, yeasts and the living world. Wine became the obvious calling. Settling near Aix-les-Bains, the desire turned into a decision: learn, listen, observe, study with generous winemakers who willingly shared their craft. Two years later, an opportunity appeared — a few parcels becoming available… right above the lake.
Early 2023 marked the official birth of the estate. A name chosen as a playful nod to a singular journey: L’Autre Bout du Monde — “The Other End of the World.”
An organic vineyard shaped by diverse micro-parcels
The estate now spans 2.5 hectares, divided into small parcels perched on the slopes of Brison-Saint-Innocent and Grésy-sur-Aix. Farmed organically from the very beginning, these vines express the richness of clay-limestone soils and their West- and Southwest-facing exposures.
Savoy grapes… with an openness to new horizons
The vineyard includes:
- Chardonnay
- Pinot Noir
- Mondeuse
- Altesse
- Jacquère
- Persan
- Johanniter
Each grape variety responds differently to changes in soil, weather and altitude. This diversity gives the wines a unique depth, shaped by the mountain climate and the constant freshness of surrounding woodlands. Nature is everywhere — protective forests, thriving biodiversity, curious wildlife… and occasionally a few grapes shared with local inhabitants.
In the cellar: finesse as a guiding principle
The goal is simple: let the wine speak for its terroir, with no artifice. Vinifications are gentle, precise and attentive.
- 100% manual harvest
- Direct pressing for whites, without crushing
- Slow cold settling
- 15-day macerations for reds with delicate pump-overs
- Spontaneous fermentations or started with pied de cuve
- Aging in stainless steel and ceramic vessels
- Sulphur kept to the strict minimum
Every gesture aims for balance, purity and the most faithful expression of each parcel.
