Domaine Gérard Bertrand: Languedoc-Roussillon wines in biodynamics
There are vines that do not only produce wine, they produce a story. Gérard Bertrand's begins in the Corbières, between the garrigue and the sea wind, where his father Georges taught him that the vine calls for listening more than authority. Since then, the Languedoc has become his signature, his voice, his most sincere commitment.
An essential reference of the Languedoc-Roussillon, Domaine Gérard Bertrand produces organic and biodynamic wines certified Demeter across 11 exceptional estates. Recognised for the quality and precision of its cuvées as much as for its creative boldness, Gérard Bertrand embodies a committed, sincere viticulture resolutely turned towards the future.
A story that begins with a father, and never stops
Gérard Bertrand did not choose the vine out of calculation. He came to it through love, that of a son for a winegrower father in the Corbières, who passed on to him far more than technical gestures. Georges Bertrand handed down a way of being in the world, rooted in this South that smells of lavender and thyme under a light no one forgets.
In 1987, on his father's death, Gérard took over Château de Villemajou. He was twenty-two. Five years later, in 1992, he founded his wine company with a conviction anchored in him: the Languedoc deserves better than anonymity. It deserves the front stage. Today, 11 châteaux and estates in Languedoc-Roussillon carry his philosophy, from Château l'Hospitalet to Clos d'Ora, from Domaine de l'Aigle to Château La Sauvageonne, each on a different terroir, each with its own voice.
The estate's philosophy
The most honest wine begins with a healthy vine, nourished to its own rhythms, without chemical forcing. Since 2002, all 11 of Gérard Bertrand's estates have been certified in organic and biodynamic farming under the Demeter certification, the most demanding international benchmark. A conviction, not a trend.

Languedoc-Roussillon: seven terroirs, a Mediterranean light, a unique identity
You cannot understand Gérard Bertrand's wines without first looking at the landscape. Languedoc-Roussillon, France's leading organic vineyard, is a vast and contrasted territory, where the Mediterranean tempers the summers, where the limestone hills capture the sun without scorching the vines, and where the sea wind acts as a natural guardian against disease.
The estates spread across a mosaic of terroirs with radically different soils and altitudes, each with its tempo, each with its signature:
AOC La Clape · AOC Corbières-Boutenac · AOC Terrasses du Larzac · AOC Minervois La Livinière · AOC Malepère · AOC Crémant de Limoux · AOC Cahors
From the clay-limestone of the Clape massif to the black schists of Corbières-Boutenac, from vines grown above 400 metres on the Terrasses du Larzac to the cool plots of Domaine de l'Aigle in Limoux: each terroir sets its own pace, and the wines are built there with precision.
Biodynamics: a conviction, not a trend
In 2002, Gérard Bertrand made a decision that shook his peers: he converted Domaine de Cigalus to biodynamics. Not to ride a trend, but because he is convinced that the most honest wine begins with a healthy vine, nourished to its own rhythms, without chemical forcing.
Since then, all 11 estates have followed. Every estate is now certified in organic and biodynamic farming under the Demeter certification, the most demanding international benchmark. In practice: no synthetic pesticides, plant-based preparations, work aligned with lunar cycles and constant attention to the biodiversity of each plot. The vines develop their own resistance, the soils regain their life, the wines gain in aromatic purity. The terroir expresses itself without being forced.
Part of the Domaine Gérard Bertrand range is also certified vegan, made without any animal-based product in the winemaking process, a further consistency with the estate's overall commitment to respectful viticulture.
Cellar know-how: natural winemaking and tailor-made ageing
Gérard Bertrand's biodynamic philosophy does not stop at the cellar door. It continues in every winemaking decision, with the same demand: to let the fruit express itself without betraying it.
Plot-by-plot winemaking
Each terroir is vinified separately to preserve its identity. Blends are made after tasting, never by formula.
Native yeasts
Fermentations are conducted with the natural yeasts present on the grapes, an approach consistent with biodynamics and revealing of the vintage.
Ageing tailored to each cuvée
Oak barrels for the great cellar cuvées (Clos d'Ora, Hospitalitas), stainless-steel tanks to preserve the freshness of whites and rosés. Each wine dictates its own ageing.
Low intervention
Sulphites reduced to a minimum, light or no filtration on the prestige cuvées. The aim is a living, unfrozen wine.
Gentle extraction
The cellar-worthy reds are worked with long, gentle extraction for silky tannins, without bitterness, a recognisable signature of the Gérard Bertrand style.
Respect for the vintage
Every year is different in Languedoc-Roussillon. The estate adapts its winemaking to the climate rather than trying to correct the vintages.
The cuvées of Domaine Gérard Bertrand: wines made to be lived
Mediterranean grapes shape the estate's identity, Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Mourvèdre for the reds and rosés; Rolle, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for the whites and the Limoux bubbles. Each cuvée is designed to reveal a precise facet of the terroir that gave birth to it.
Clos d’Ora
Red wine · AOP Minervois La Livinière
The estate's most meditative cuvée. A cellar-worthy red built around the idea of harmony, peace, love, balance. A wine that asks for time, and repays it a hundredfold.
Cigalus Rouge
Red wine · IGP Pays d’Oc · Demeter biodynamics
The estate's biodynamic benchmark. Red and black fruit, silky texture, a lingering finish. A sincere wine that resembles those who make it.
L’Hospitalitas
Red wine · AOC La Clape
Grand cru of the Clape massif. A smooth attack on ripe black fruit and violet. A wine of character, cut out for great occasions and long tables.
Clos du Temple
Rosé · World's best rosé
An ample palate, white fruit, exotic notes and green pepper. It redefines what a rosé can be when treated with the same seriousness as a great cellar wine.
Côte des Roses
Rosé · IGP Pays d’Oc
The bottle with a base sculpted into a rose. Fresh, fruity, generous. The wine of the aperitif and summer evenings with friends, beautiful down to its packaging.
Crémant de Limoux
Sparkling · AOC Crémant de Limoux
Made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, from the cool vines of Limoux. Freshness, liveliness, an elegant bubble, a refined alternative for celebrations and large tables.
The estate also crafts vins doux naturels (fortified wines) and orange wines in Languedoc-Roussillon, rare expressions that reflect Gérard Bertrand's constant curiosity for every facet of this vineyard.
