Domaine Ernest Burn

South of Colmar, in the winegrowing village of Gueberschwihr, Domaine Ernest Burn watches over one of the most emblematic terroirs of Alsace. This 10-hectare family vineyard stretches mainly over the Grand Cru Goldert, whose historic heart is the Clos Saint-Imer, a rare 5-hectare block in a single piece.
This exceptional place is intimately linked to Alsace's winemaking history. Dominated by the famous Romanesque bell tower of Gueberschwihr, a listed historic monument, the vineyard belongs to one of the oldest winegrowing villages of the region. Here, the vine has shaped the landscape since the Middle Ages.

The Clos Saint-Imer, jewel of the Grand Cru Goldert
The Clos Saint-Imer sits on a spectacular hillside, between 270 and 350 metres of altitude, with steep slopes facing due south-east. These strong gradients, reaching 40 to 50%, require demanding manual work, but in return offer an ideal environment for the vine.
The oolithic limestone soils from the Jurassic, combined with natural stone scree, store heat and protect the vines from the wind. This unique microclimate favours a slow and regular ripening of the grapes, giving birth to wines of great depth, recognised for their exceptional ageing potential and their remarkable balance.
The revival of a historic vineyard
After the ravages of phylloxera, the successive wars and the difficulty of working these extreme slopes, the vineyard had been left abandoned. It was in 1934 that Ernest Burn undertook to bring this forgotten terroir back to life, with patience and determination.
This revival marks the starting point of the estate's modern history. Thanks to rigorous work and an intimate knowledge of the terroir, the Burn family restored the soul of this hillside, now recognised as one of the great terroirs of Alsace, often cited as offering one of the best value-for-pleasure ratios of the region.
