Domaine du Val des Rois: a family heritage in the heart of the Côtes du Rhône Villages Valréas

Domaine du Val des Rois

A family organic estate in Valreas (Cotes du Rhone Villages), founded in 1965 by Romain Bouchard, nine generations of winegrowers. 10 hectares between 350 and 400 m of altitude, at the foot of the Montagne de la Lance. Grenache, Syrah, Bourboulenc. Ecocert-certified.

In the north of the Cotes du Rhone Villages appellation, between sunny plains and stony slopes, Domaine du Val des Rois perpetuates a winegrowing tradition of excellence over nine generations. Founded in 1965 by Romain Bouchard, a passionate winegrower from Burgundy, the estate is rooted in Valreas, at the foot of the Montagne de la Lance, in a preserved environment classified as a bird sanctuary.

A family history rooted in the terroir of Valréas

Founded in 1965 by Romain Bouchard, a winegrower from Burgundy, Domaine du Val des Rois is part of a winegrowing tradition passed down over nine generations. Today, his son Emmanuel Bouchard, a biologist by training, runs the estate with the same demands: to produce authentic, living wines, reflections of a unique terroir.

A unique altitude terroir, between stone, clay and Mistral

The estate's 10 hectares stretch between 350 and 400 metres of altitude, on stony, limestone soils rich in deep clays. This combination offers a rare balance between freshness, structure and aromatic complexity. The south-east exposure favours an even ripeness of the grapes, while the Mistral, the emblematic wind of the Rhone Valley, keeps a dry, healthy climate, guaranteeing concentrated grapes of great purity.

Grenache and Syrah, the emblematic grapes of the region, express all their finesse here: controlled power, tannic elegance and aromas of ripe fruit enhanced by notes of spice and garrigue.

Organic viticulture and living soils

Committed for several decades to an approach respectful of nature, Domaine du Val des Rois is certified organic by Ecocert. No synthetic product is used: the soil is nourished exclusively with plant compost, favouring biodiversity and natural microbial life. Three great principles guide Emmanuel Bouchard: to stimulate the vine's natural defences, to favour an optimal ripeness of the grapes and to activate the biological life of the soils, for a balanced, resilient vine.

Artisanal winemaking, in a former sheepfold

Winemaking aims for the purity of the fruit and the natural elegance of the wines. Fermentations are carried out with care to preserve the primary aromas, while the blends showcase the complementarity of Grenache (roundness and fruit) and Syrah (structure and complexity). Each cuvee is crafted with patience in a cellar set up in a former sheepfold, a symbol of the link between nature, tradition and innovation.
