Domaine du Tix: A Wine Estate in the Vaucluse Between Sun, Mistral and Rhône Valley Wines

A historic vineyard in the heart of the Vaucluse. Located at 350 meters above sea level in the Vaucluse, Domaine du Tix is a vineyard deeply rooted in the ancient history of the Rhône Valley.

This land, once called the “closed valley” by the Romans, was already cultivated more than 2,500 years ago. At that time, the Vaucluse served as an agricultural garden for the Roman Empire, producing olives, grapes, dye plants and cereals. Even today, coins bearing the image of Caesar are occasionally discovered in the vineyard soils, silent witnesses of this ancient past.

Over the centuries, the site of Domaine du Tix has fulfilled many roles: fertile agricultural land, a place of wine production, and even a refuge for pilgrims climbing the hills to reach the chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Anges above the estate, where they prayed for good harvests or protection from epidemics.

This historical memory continues to live on in every vintage produced at the estate.

An altitude terroir ideal for Vaucluse wines

The vineyard of Domaine du Tix benefits from a natural environment particularly favorable for producing great wines of the Southern Rhône Valley.

The estate enjoys a generous Mediterranean climate characterized by:

exceptional sunshine almost all year round
an altitude of 350 meters
cool nights and abundant morning dew
the influence of the Mistral, the iconic wind of the Rhône Valley

This combination creates a natural thermal contrast that allows the grapes to develop freshness, tension and aromatic complexity despite the intensity of the Provençal sun.

The clay-limestone soils are rich and well-drained, forcing the vine roots to grow deep into the earth. This natural constraint strengthens fruit concentration and gives birth to elegant, balanced and expressive wines from the Vaucluse.

Iconic Rhône Valley grape varieties

On this demanding terroir, the traditional grape varieties of the Rhône Valley express themselves fully.

The vineyard of Domaine du Tix is mainly composed of: Syrah - Grenache - Cinsault - Viognier

These Mediterranean grape varieties thrive here, producing aromatic wines where ripe fruit, spicy notes and mineral freshness come together.

The renaissance of Domaine du Tix

The modern history of the estate began in 2001 when Marie Pirsch and Philippe Danel discovered the property.

The site was magnificent and the terroir’s potential obvious, but the vines were producing only table grapes at the time. Driven by an ambitious vision, they decided to transform the vineyard by grafting more than 20,000 vines with varieties intended for quality wine production.

The gamble proved successful: 92% of the grafts survived, marking the beginning of a new winemaking adventure.

In 2016, André Tremblay took over the estate with the goal of continuing this project and bringing Domaine du Tix wines to a new level of excellence. He modernized the facilities, improved vineyard practices and expanded the reputation of the estate.

Since 2020, Nathalie Bonhomme, with more than thirty years of experience in wine production and marketing, has contributed to the development and international visibility of the estate.

Today, the wines of Domaine du Tix are regularly awarded and featured on the wine lists of numerous gastronomic restaurants.

Organic viticulture respectful of the terroir

At Domaine du Tix, wine quality begins in the vineyard.

The human-scale vineyard allows for artisanal viticulture where every vine is carefully tended.

Manual vineyard work includes:

bud thinning
removal of secondary shoots
cluster thinning
canopy management to optimize sun exposure

This approach allows the grapes to absorb the Mediterranean sun while preserving their natural balance.

The estate also follows a demanding environmental commitment:

Organic Agriculture certification since 2020
High Environmental Value certification (HVE)

These commitments reflect the estate’s desire to produce wines that respect nature and faithfully express the terroir of the Vaucluse.
