A Family Story Since 1820. Founded in 1820 in the heart of the Cher Valley, Domaine des Souterrains now covers 23 hectares. Heir to a long winemaking tradition, the estate expresses the richness of its terroir through cuvées that are regularly awarded and served on prestigious tables.

Nicolas Mazzesi and Katherine Wu – A New Chapter for the Estate

In 2011, Nicolas Mazzesi and his wife Katherine Wu took over Domaine des Souterrains with a clear ambition: to raise the vineyard to its highest qualitative potential. Coming from the medical field, Nicolas chose to train in viticulture at the Amboise wine school before dedicating himself fully to the vines.

As early as 2012, the estate obtained Terra Vitis certification, a guarantee of sustainable viticulture that respects both the environment and people. In 2020, this commitment was reinforced with HVE 3 (High Environmental Value) certification. This demanding approach also led to a significant reduction in sulfur use, ensuring a purer expression of the fruit.

From Domaine des Souterrains to Château de Selles-sur-Cher

Passionate about local heritage, Nicolas and Katherine also took over the Château de Selles-sur-Cher in 2014, which had been abandoned. They undertook its renovation, installed a modern cellar, and launched a new range: the “Cuvées Château,” reviving the site’s winemaking history.

Signature Cuvées of Domaine des Souterrains

Touraine Sauvignon – 100% Sauvignon Blanc, an aromatic wine marked by notes of blackcurrant bud, vineyard peach, and green apple. The palate is fresh and full, with a long finish.

Touraine Chenonceaux Blanc – Also 100% Sauvignon, it reveals aromas of fresh butter, brioche, and white fruits. On the palate, richness and freshness combine with an elegant mineral finish.

Touraine Chenonceaux Rouge – A blend of 80% Côt and 20% Cabernet Franc, this powerful wine displays aromas of violet, ripe blackcurrant, and prune. The palate offers blackberry and forest floor notes, supported by a rich tannic structure.

Touraine Gamay – 100% Gamay, a crunchy, gourmand wine with raspberry and strawberry flavors, perfect for convivial moments.

Touraine “Les 2 Demoiselles” – A subtle balance of Côt and Cabernet Franc, seducing with aromas of black cherry and blackberry, and an elegant finish on cherry pit.

Méthode Traditionnelle – A blend of Chenin (50%), Chardonnay (30%), and Arbois (20%), this sparkling cuvée reveals aromas of green apple and peach, with a mineral and refined palate.

Méthode Traditionnelle Rosé – Made from Cabernet Franc and Pineau d’Aunis, this sparkling wine charms with notes of raspberry, ripe strawberry, and a light citrus-accented finish.
