Domaine des Féraud, a viticultural rebirth at the heart of the Côtes de Provence
Located in Vidauban, in the heart of the Côtes de Provence appellation, Domaine des Féraud covers nearly 50 hectares of vineyards between sea and hills, just a few kilometers from Saint-Tropez. Here, Provence expresses itself without artifice: cool nights, more than 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, soils combining sand, sandstone, and quartz, and the mistral wind that naturally protects the vines.
A demanding terroir, perfectly suited to producing elegant, precise, and deeply Mediterranean wines.
A transformation driven by passion
Nothing initially destined Markus Conrad to become a winemaker. Trained as a trumpeter and later an entrepreneur in the book and coffee industries, he chose to change his life at the age of fifty. Together with his wife Annerose, he took over the estate in 2009, guided by a strong conviction: wine is a living art, an emotion meant to be shared.
Like music, wine requires listening, sensitivity, and mastery of nuance. Like coffee, it brings people together and creates connection. This philosophy still guides every decision made at Domaine des Féraud today.
“For me, wine is liquid music.” – Markus Conrad
A vineyard steeped in history
The estate’s land carries more than a century of winemaking history. Formerly known as Domaine de Peissonnel, it was cultivated from the early 20th century by the Rival family, pioneers in planting grape varieties that were considered bold for the region at the time: Syrah, Sémillon, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The domaine has endured changing eras, generations, and shifts in the wine world while maintaining a reputation for excellence, praised by major international critics. Today, this heritage feeds a modern, conscious viticulture oriented toward the future.
Organic viticulture by conviction
From the moment they arrived, Markus and Annerose made a clear choice: organic farming, not out of opportunism, but out of respect for living ecosystems.
- No synthetic pesticides
- Very limited use of sulfur and copper, well below organic thresholds
- Soil work, cover crops, and preserved biodiversity
The estate goes even further with an approach they describe as “dynamic organic”: careful vineyard observation, adaptation to natural cycles, and interventions reduced to what is strictly necessary. Here, the vine is never forced; it is guided.
Sincere and balanced Provence wines
The philosophy is simple: to make wines that one enjoys drinking with friends and family.
Fresh, precise, and luminous rosés and whites designed for immediate pleasure. Characterful red wines capable of aging gracefully while retaining their generosity.
The estate’s emblematic grape varieties form a coherent and expressive range:
- Syrah, for structure, depth, and aging potential
- Rolle (Vermentino), for freshness and aromatic tension
- Old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, planted between 1951 and 1978, true memories of the terroir
Harvesting is done by hand for whites and reds, and mechanically at night for rosés to preserve aromatic potential. Fermentations are mostly spontaneous, and only old-vine cuvées are aged in barrels.
A cellar designed for precision
The Domaine des Féraud winery is designed for small-scale, parcel-by-parcel vinification. Concrete, stainless steel, wooden, and egg-shaped vats allow each wine to be aged according to the personality of the grapes.
The goal is never to transform, but to reveal the purest expression of the terroir.
The controlled boldness of natural wines
True to its experimental spirit, the estate also produces a micro-range of natural wines, made without additives and without sulfur at bottling. These are confidential, demanding cuvées—sometimes surprising, but always sincere.
A conscious risk taken in the service of terroir expression.
Domaine des Féraud, a living Provence
Domaine des Féraud embodies an authentic Provence, far from clichés. A place where history, nature, and people come together to create wines that are precise, elegant, and deeply expressive.
How does the “dynamic organic” approach at Domaine des Féraud influence the style, balance, and freshness of its Provence wines ?
