Domaine des Chers – Independent Winemaker in the Heart of Beaujolais (Juliénas & Saint-Amour)

A Family Story, Three Generations, One Vision. After a youth spent between Lyon and Juliénas, I joined the family estate in 2009 and settled there permanently in 2014. Studies in oenology, vineyard experience, and inspiring encounters have shaped my vision: to continue the work of my father and grandfather while bringing my own signature — precision in aging, a deep understanding of terroir, and consistent quality.

Old Vines: Our Greatest Oenological Asset

Founded in 1956, Domaine des Chers covers 4 hectares in AOP Juliénas and 1 hectare in AOP Saint-Amour, complemented by selected plots in Moulin-à-Vent and Chénas. South-facing old vines (40 to 100 years) rooted in granite, sand, and volcanic rock yield moderate harvests (~50 hl/ha), ensuring concentration and elegance. Around 25,000 bottles are produced annually, distributed to private customers, wine shops, restaurants, and for export. As Independent Winemakers, we practice sustainable viticulture that respects the living ecosystem.

House Style: Revealing Gamay and Its Terroir

Mostly hand-harvested grapes, fermentation adapted to each vintage, and precise aging (in tanks or barrels depending on the cuvée): our goal is clear — to express Gamay with bright fruit, silky tannins, and the pure freshness that defines the great crus of Beaujolais.

Our Appellations & Cuvées

Classic Cuvées

  • AOP Saint-Amour – Vieilles Vignes (Côtes de Besset, Pressins, Tête de Bonnet): altitudes 260–420 m, sandy and granitic soils. A fresh and fruity Saint-Amour with charming red fruit notes.
  • AOP Juliénas – Vieilles Vignes (Les Chers, Les Capitans): volcanic blue rock terroirs and higher altitudes produce a perfectly balanced wine with structure and purity.
  • AOP Moulin-à-Vent – Vieilles Vignes (Vieux Bourg de Chénas, Rochenoire): north-south exposures, sand and granite soils. Black fruits, spices, a hint of undergrowth, smooth and persistent finish.
  • AOP Chénas – Oak Barrel Aged (Rochenoire): careful oak aging for a fresh, fruity red with soft tannins and delicate wood — immediate pleasure.

Single-Parcel Cuvées (Selection & Identity)

  • Le Secret de mon Père – AOP Juliénas (Les Chers, “Noël” parcel, 320 m south-facing): granite and deep schist give rare finesse and remarkable length.
  • L’Arbre de Vie – AOP Saint-Amour (Côte de Besset, 420 m): aged in large Radoux oak casks, offering precision, structure, and pure red fruit.
  • Voyage dans le temps – AOP Moulin-à-Vent (Vieux Bourg de Chénas): restrained power, concentration, musky and earthy depth — a tribute to our ancestors.

Secondary Cuvées

  • AOP Bourgogne Blanc (Saint-Vérand, clay-limestone soil): mineral and dry Chardonnay with notes of pear and white flowers — best enjoyed not too chilled to reveal its full complexity.
  • Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau (Primeur) (Saint-Vérand): cassis, red fruits, a touch of forest floor — a joyful, easy-drinking wine to share.
