Domaine des Chaffangeons: Fleurie, Beaujolais, Crus du Beaujolais, Rhône

In Fleurie, at the heart of the Beaujolais Crus, a family estate has been standing the test of time since 1955, three generations, the same love of Gamay, and pink volcanic granite soils that give the wines their singular character. Domaine des Chaffangeons is southern Burgundy at its most genuine: sincere, generous, rooted.

Expertise & experience, Estate-bottled wines, Outstanding quality for the price.

History and origins of the estate

The story of Domaine des Chaffangeons begins in 1955, when M. Robert Depardon founded the estate on 7 hectares of Fleurie. He chose this terroir of granite and volcanic rock carefully, and he chose well. Over the following decades, the estate passed from father to daughter, then the third generation took the reins: Frédéric and Edith Perrier, running the EARL Perrier & Fils, carry the estate's legacy forward with the same conviction.

Across three generations, the vineyard has more than doubled, from 7 to 17 hectares, and the range has grown well beyond Fleurie alone. But the ambition has never shifted: to satisfy every wine lover, from the curious first-timer to the seasoned connoisseur, with honest cuvées at an outstanding price.

The terroir and its unique character

Fleurie is one of the ten Beaujolais Crus, and widely considered the most elegant. Located in the Rhône département, a few kilometres north of Mâcon, the appellation sits on exceptional ground: pink volcanic granite soils (arènes granitiques), whose distinctive mineral composition, combined with a temperate climate, gives the wines their lightness, delicate fruitiness and characteristic freshness.

Domaine des Chaffangeons farms 17 hectares across several Beaujolais Crus appellations. This varied territory, from Fleurie to Morgon and Moulin-à-Vent, allows Frédéric and Edith Perrier to offer a complete range, each appellation bringing its own character and personality.

Working the vines and our commitments

Winemaking at Domaine des Chaffangeons carefully distinguishes reds from whites. For the reds, the harvest is destemmed before entering the vat, a deliberate choice to avoid herbaceous notes and preserve the purity of the fruit. Fermentation runs for around ten days under constant supervision, with temperatures rising to approximately 30°C to extract maximum colour from the Gamay, a grape naturally tricky to work with in terms of pigment. The wines then rest in concrete vats until racking, before bottling in April of the following year.

For the whites, the approach is reversed: direct pressing on arrival at the winery, around twenty days of fermentation, then bottling in January following the harvest. The Chardonnay is thus worked at its freshest. The estate holds the High Environmental Value (HVE) certification, a concrete commitment to biodiversity and soil health across the Fleurie vineyards.

Grape varieties and appellations

Two grape varieties structure the entire range. Gamay (a black-skinned, white-juiced grape) produces all the red wines, from the Beaujolais Crus to the sparkling rosés. Chardonnay gives life to the whites, from the dry Beaujolais Blanc to the confidential sweet wine.

The range spans a broad territory: Fleurie (several cuvées including La Madone), Morgon, Moulin-à-Vent, Beaujolais Blanc, Beaujolais Villages red and rosé, Crémant de Bourgogne, and two atypical Vins de France: La Bulle en Rose (sparkling rosé) and L'Antidote (sweet white).

The wine style and the cuvées

The wines of Domaine des Chaffangeons are pleasurable, food-friendly wines made for every moment at the table, from aperitif to dessert. A wide range, outstanding value, and cuvées with genuine personality without ever overplaying it.

Fleurie La Madone

Fleurie Cru · Gamay · Estate's top seller

The estate's signature cuvée, produced from one of Fleurie's most celebrated named plots. Fruity, elegant, Beaujolais at its most refined.

Morgon

Morgon Cru · Gamay · Full-bodied and structured

The Cru that draws the most depth from Gamay. Fleshy, with real substance and a greater ageing potential than the other Beaujolais Crus.

Moulin-à-Vent

Moulin-à-Vent Cru · Gamay · The king of Beaujolais

Considered the most powerful Cru and the best suited to ageing. A Gamay that approaches the great red Burgundies, with fine tannic structure and complex aromatics. Save it for evenings that count.

Beaujolais Blanc

Chardonnay · Clay-limestone soils · Drinks well for 2–3 years

A rising appellation, made from Chardonnay on clay-limestone soils. Fresh and lively, with a clean grapefruit citrus note. A natural match for aperitifs, salads, cod and seafood. Keeps for 2–3 years.

L'Antidote, Vin de France Sweet White

Chardonnay · Approx. 500 bottles/year · Aperitif

The estate's most unusual cuvée. A Chardonnay vinified with a touch of natural residual sweetness preserved, fresh, lively, with just enough softness to make it a very pleasurable aperitif wine. Confidential production: around 500 bottles per year.

La Bulle en Rose, Vin de France Sparkling Rosé

Sparkling Rosé · Vin de France · Festive and indulgent

The estate's bubbly, indulgent cuvée. A sparkling rosé full of personality, ideal for festive aperitifs and convivial gatherings.

What you will only find at Domaine des Chaffangeons

70 years of history on the same terroir. Since 1955, three generations of the same family have farmed the granite soils of Fleurie. That continuity is not incidental, it means an intimate knowledge of the soil, the exposures, the vintages. A reading of the terroir that cannot be learnt in a few years.

Three Beaujolais Crus in a single range. Fleurie, Morgon, Moulin-à-Vent: three different expressions of Gamay on three distinct terroirs. A rare diversity for a family estate of this size, allowing every wine lover to find the style that suits them, from light and fruity to full-bodied and structured.

L'Antidote: 500 bottles a year. This confidential sweet white exists nowhere else. Produced in tiny quantities, it embodies the estate's creative freedom, a Chardonnay with a hint of natural sweetness, for those who want something beyond the usual dry wine.

HVE certified, 80% hand-harvested. High Environmental Value certification, a predominantly hand-picked harvest, and estate bottling, concrete commitments to quality and respect for the Fleurie terroir, felt in every glass.

Frequently asked questions about Domaine des Chaffangeons

Where is Domaine des Chaffangeons located ?

Domaine des Chaffangeons is located at 73 rue du Millésime in Fleurie (69820), in the Rhône département, a few kilometres north of Mâcon. It sits at the heart of the Beaujolais Crus, one of France's most celebrated wine regions for the Gamay grape.

Why buy Domaine des Chaffangeons wines directly, with no middleman ?

Because every bottle leaves directly from Fleurie, vinified and estate-bottled by Frédéric and Edith Perrier, with no intermediate warehouse. You receive the wine in the exact storage conditions of the domaine, at its best, at a price that reflects genuinely outstanding value.

What is the Fleurie Cru ?

Fleurie is one of the ten Beaujolais Crus, the region's top-tier appellations. Known as the most elegant and floral of the Crus, it is produced exclusively from Gamay on pink volcanic granite soils. Domaine des Chaffangeons has been established here since 1955, producing several Fleurie cuvées including the flagship La Madone.

What is the difference between Fleurie, Morgon and Moulin-à-Vent ?

All three are Beaujolais Crus, produced from Gamay, but with very different characters. Fleurie is floral and elegant. Morgon is fuller-bodied, deeper, with greater ageing potential. Moulin-à-Vent is the most powerful and structured — the one that ages best and comes closest to the great red Burgundies. Domaine des Chaffangeons produces all three.

What food pairs well with Domaine des Chaffangeons wines ?

Fleurie opens up beautifully alongside charcuterie, roast poultry and strong cheeses. Morgon is a magnificent match for red meats and slow-cooked dishes. Moulin-à-Vent deserves a generous table, game, duck breast, aged cheeses. The Beaujolais Blanc is a natural fit for aperitifs, cod and seafood. L'Antidote is best enjoyed on its own as an aperitif — a gentle sweetness that resembles nothing else in the range.
