Domaine de Villargeau: three generations of committed winemakers in the heart of the Coteaux du Giennois

Located in the Centre-Loire region, within the Coteaux du Giennois appellation, Domaine de Villargeau is the result of a family adventure built on patience, curiosity, and deep respect for living ecosystems.

The story begins in 1991, when Jean-Fernand and François, heirs to several generations of farmer-winemakers, decided to revive old vineyard plots. On these flint-rich hillsides, they immediately recognized the exceptional potential of Sauvignon Blanc. The vineyard gradually expanded with the planting of Pinot Noir and Gamay, forming the emblematic trio of the Coteaux du Giennois.

A new generation at the helm, faithful to the spirit of the estate

Today, the estate is run by Marc, Yves, and Christophe, three winemakers with complementary backgrounds, united by a shared vision of wine.

Marc joined the estate in 2002 after gaining experience in Burgundy, the Languedoc, and New Zealand. From vineyard work to cellar management, from winemaking to sales, Villargeau has become the core of his passion.

Yves arrived in 2016 with an unconventional background combining agriculture, biodiversity, and international humanitarian projects. He brings a strong ecological sensitivity and plays an active role in advancing the estate’s environmental practices.

Christophe, an agricultural engineer, built his experience in Bordeaux, Champagne, and the Centre-Loire, notably in Sauvignon vine nursery production. He joined Villargeau in 2020, completing a young, committed trio deeply rooted in their terroir.

While stepping back from day-to-day operations, founders Jean-Fernand and François remain involved in the major strategic decisions, ensuring the continuity of Villargeau’s identity and heritage.

The Coteaux du Giennois: a confidential and distinctive terroir

Still relatively discreet but rapidly gaining recognition, the Coteaux du Giennois appellation stands out for its rare diversity of soils: flint, clay-limestone, and marl. These terroirs give the wines a fresh, mineral identity, particularly evident in Sauvignon Blanc, which here expresses remarkable aromatic precision.

Domaine de Villargeau is dedicated to revealing this richness through meticulous vineyard work and respectful vinification methods, combining modern techniques with traditional know-how. Whites, reds, and rosés all follow the same philosophy: balance, clarity, and pleasure.

Sustainable viticulture with a long-term vision

Committed since 2012 to the Terra Vitis approach, the estate guarantees:

• full traceability from vine to bottle,
• a reasoned reduction in phytosanitary products,
• the development of beneficial wildlife,
• responsible management of resources and packaging,
• constant attention to working conditions.

This environmental commitment led, in 2019, to the estate’s conversion to organic farming—a natural step in a broader philosophy of respect for living systems.
