Domaine de Pilhoy: a story of transmission and conviction in Rions

At Domaine de Pilhoy, wine is first and foremost a family affair—one of patience, commitment and deliberate choices.

The story begins in 1962, when the grandfather purchased the estate. Passionate about vines and wine, he naturally passed on his know-how to his son, and later to the next generation. A simple, sincere transmission, without artifice—just like the wines that are born from it.

A new generation driven by passion

Although Julia Raynaud grew up surrounded by vineyards, her path was not predetermined. After initially training as a nurse, the call of the land and open air became irresistible.

She retrained in the wine world with a BTS in wine and spirits commerce, followed by a degree in wine tourism, before spending nine years working on the family estate.

In February 2017, she officially partnered with her father, Georges Raynaud. A new chapter began, despite a challenging year marked by frost and hail. At Domaine de Pilhoy, perseverance is second nature. Father and daughter work in perfect harmony—so much so that they are often described as “clones.”

A Bordeaux vineyard rooted on the hillsides of Rions

The estate now covers around 30 to 35 hectares of vineyards located in the commune of Rions, in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region.

The parcels, including 15 hectares in a single block, are planted on south-facing clay-limestone hillsides—an ideal setting for slow, balanced grape ripening.

The grape varieties reflect classic Bordeaux identity:

Merlot

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Franc

Sauvignon

Sémillon

Muscadelle

Organic, respectful and committed viticulture

Deeply attached to soil health and living ecosystems, Georges and Julia Raynaud have chosen an exacting organic approach:

mechanical weed control

strict limitation of inputs

constant observation of the vines

In 2019, the estate built its own winemaking cellar, allowing complete control over every stage of production.

Today, Domaine de Pilhoy is certified organic, with a clear objective: to produce high-quality wines that remain faithful to their terroir, without masking the grape’s natural expression.

Sincere wines, crafted for pleasure

Each wine from Domaine de Pilhoy tells a story—of the land and of the father-daughter partnership behind it.

Père & Fille Cuvée: A blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, this flagship cuvée reveals aromas of red fruits, violet and spices. The palate is supple, round and generous, with notes of blackberry, cherry and blackcurrant.

A true sharing wine, perfect with roast poultry, rib-eye steak or a cheese platter.

Julia Cuvée – White: A dry white wine aged in new oak barrels, made from a 50% Sauvignon and 50% Sémillon blend.

The nose shows ripe fruit, while the palate is broad and creamy, marked by citrus notes and finely integrated oak. A modern, elegant wine with real character.

Bordeaux Rosé: Pale pink in color, with an expressive nose of strawberry and candy notes. Fresh, light and thirst-quenching on the palate.

Ideal as an aperitif or with summer barbecues.

Bordeaux White: A blend of Sauvignon, Sémillon and Muscadelle.

Bright color, floral aromas and a balanced, generous palate. A versatile white wine, well suited to fish, seafood and white meats.

Bordeaux Red: Predominantly Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc.

A rich, full-bodied wine with notes of ripe and cooked fruit.

Awarded 1 star in the 2025 Guide Hachette des Vins, a well-earned recognition of the estate’s work.
