Domaine de Montcalm – The Soul of Camargue Sand Wines

A vineyard in the heart of the Petite Camargue. Nestled amidst the wild landscapes of the Gardian Petite Camargue, Domaine de Montcalm has been cultivating the art of winemaking since 1934 with respect for nature. Certified in organic farming and a member of the 1% for the Planet association, the estate embodies a strong commitment to biodiversity and sustainability.

With 40 hectares in AOP Sable de Camargue and 25 hectares in IGP Pays d’Oc, the vineyard produces authentic wines, reflecting a unique terroir. Among them, the Gris des Sables, emblematic of the region, captivates with its freshness and delicacy.

A History Rooted in Sand and Time

The estate is named after the Marquis de Montcalm, a historical figure who died in 1759 during the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in Quebec. This vast land, once composed of dunes, forests, and marshes, was acquired in 1882 by Louis Prat, a visionary who built a fully autonomous ecosystem: cellar, stables, school, water tower, and even a bakery.

Protected naturally from phylloxera by sandy soils, the Montcalm vines have endured through the ages without ever losing their identity. In 1934, the Jeanjacques family took over the estate and has nurtured it through generations. Today, this family line continues to uphold the passion for wine and love for the Camargue.

A Knowledge of Winemaking Respectful of Nature

At Domaine de Montcalm, every step of production is guided by respect for the grapes and the Mediterranean climate. Harvests are carried out at night, between 1 a.m. and 10 a.m., to preserve aromas and limit oxidation of the juice. Vinification is precise and careful: direct pressing for gray and white wines, controlled maceration for reds. Each grape variety is vinified separately, ensuring a faithful expression of each plot.

Wines with a Distinctive Character

The estate offers a diverse range of wines:

  • Excellence Gris – the typical charm of Camargue Sand Wines, full of finesse.
  • Signature Gris and Sérigraphie Gris – a perfect balance of elegance and freshness.
  • Prestige Blanc, Chardonnay Blanc, Blanc Moelleux Montcalm – purity and minerality of the Camargue terroir.
  • Excellence Rouge, M Rouge, Collection Rouge – full-bodied, supple, and expressive red wines.

Innovation in the Service of Tradition

Always seeking creativity, the estate launched the Maison Montcalm brand. This project led to the creation of a Premium Camargue Gin, carefully distilled, as well as a 3-Year-Old Rum, produced through an exclusive collaboration with a prestigious distillery in Guadeloupe.

A Vineyard Oriented Towards the Future

With respect for the land, innovation, and passion for wine, Domaine de Montcalm represents the new generation of organic wines from the Camargue. Its wines reflect the raw beauty of the Camargue landscapes and the exacting craftsmanship passed down through four generations.
