A history rooted in sand and time
The estate takes its name from the Marquis de Montcalm, a historic figure who died in 1759 at the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in Quebec. This vast territory, once made of dunes, forests and marshes, was acquired in 1882 by Louis Prat, a visionary who built there a true self-sufficient ecosystem: cellar, stable, school, water tower and even a bakery.
Naturally protected from phylloxera by the sandy soils, the Montcalm vines have crossed the ages without ever losing their identity. In 1934, the Jeanjacques family took over the estate and made it prosper from generation to generation. Still today, this family line carries on the passion for wine and the love of the Camargue.
A know-how respectful of nature
At Domaine de Montcalm, every step of production is guided by respect for the grape and the Mediterranean climate. Harvesting is done at night, between 1 a.m. and 10 a.m., to preserve the aromas and limit oxidation of the juice. Winemaking is precise and careful: direct pressing for the gris and white wines, controlled maceration for the reds. Each grape variety is vinified separately, ensuring a faithful expression of each plot.
Cuvées with an assertive personality
The estate crafts a fine diversity of wines:
- Cuvée Excellence Gris - the typical charm of the Sables de Camargue wines, all in finesse.
- Cuvée Signature Gris and Cuvée Sérigraphie Gris - a perfect balance between elegance and freshness.
- Cuvée Prestige Blanc, Chardonnay Blanc, Blanc Moelleux Montcalm - the purity and minerality of the Camargue terroir.
- Cuvée Excellence Rouge, Cuvée M Rouge, Cuvée Collection Rouge - full, supple and expressive red wines.
Innovation in the service of tradition
Always in search of creativity, the estate launched the Maison Montcalm brand. This project gave birth to a Premium Camargue Gin, carefully distilled, as well as a 3-year-old aged Rum, made through an exclusive collaboration with a prestigious distillery in Guadeloupe.

Why are the grapes harvested at night at Domaine de Montcalm?
