Domaine Calmel & Joseph: the art of wine between tradition and innovation

Domaine Calmel & Joseph

A Languedoc house founded in 1995 by Laurent Calmel and Jerome Joseph, and an organic estate in the Val de Dagne (Corbières, Aude). A former farmstead mentioned as early as 1577, ~200 ha including 20 of vines, clay-limestone soils up to 300 m. Elegant, fresh Languedoc wines, to discover direct.

A human and winegrowing adventure since 1995. Founded by Laurent Calmel, a passionate oenologist, and Jerome Joseph, the Calmel & Joseph House was born from a clear ambition: to reveal the exceptional potential of the Languedoc-Roussillon through wines of great elegance. From the outset, the duo worked with committed winegrowers of the region to create a collection of cuvees combining authenticity, precision and respect for the terroir.

A historic estate in the heart of the Corbières

Domaine Calmel & Joseph, a former Languedoc farmstead mentioned as early as 1577, stands in the Val de Dagne, on the foothills of the Alaric and the Hautes Corbières. Surrounded by fragrant garrigue, pine woods and olive groves, the estate covers nearly 200 hectares including 20 planted with vines. Its clay-limestone soils, its altitude (up to 300 metres) and its temperate Mediterranean microclimate give the wines a unique freshness and complexity. A few Roman remains recall that this exceptional wine site has been inhabited by history for centuries.

Nature balances itself, for it has no prejudice

This motto guides every decision, from farming to bottling. Calmel & Joseph is the meeting of ancestral know-how and the modern vision of a bold Languedoc, where each wine tells a story of terroir and harmony.

A philosophy founded on the living

At Calmel & Joseph, biodiversity is not a concept but a daily commitment. The whole estate is farmed organically, without pesticides or chemical products. The soils are naturally nourished by green manures (field beans, oats, barley) and worked gently to preserve their microbiological balance. This sustainable approach favours the rebirth of a varied fauna and flora: earthworms, fungi, pollinating insects and bees find a natural refuge here. The vine sits harmoniously alongside olive trees, cereals, almond trees and lavender - more than 2,000 olive trees produce an extra-virgin olive oil, while the hives offer a fragrant garrigue and thyme honey.

The art of wine: precision, elegance and freshness

Calmel & Joseph wines are born from rigorous parcel selections and meticulous winemaking. Each vintage is vinified naturally, with minimal intervention, to preserve the purity of the fruit and the identity of the terroir. Ageing in concrete vats or barrels of different sizes refines the textures and develops subtle aromas, between fruit, minerality and finesse. The range unfolds in emblematic collections, from the estate wines to the rare cuvees and crus.

The emblematic collections of Calmel & Joseph

Three collections structure the range: The Estate wines, from the most representative parcels of the Corbières; Villa Blanche, a modern range exploring the great grapes of the South; and the Rare Cuvees and Crus, wines for keeping that reveal the nobility of the Languedoc-Roussillon.

The Estate wines

Corbières - parcel selections, organic

From the estate's most representative parcels, in the Val de Dagne, they convey all the diversity of the Corbières and the richness of the surrounding nature. Terroir wines, naturally vinified, between freshness and complexity.

Villa Blanche

A modern, expressive range that explores the great grapes of the South - Pinot Noir, Syrah, Grenache for the reds, Chardonnay, Viognier and Sauvignon blanc for the whites. Precise, aromatic wines, the signature of Calmel & Joseph's Languedoc renewal.

The Rare Cuvees and Crus

Languedoc-Roussillon - wines for keeping

Wines for keeping that reveal the nobility of the Languedoc-Roussillon, combining complexity and elegance. From rigorous parcel selections and careful ageing in concrete vats and barrels, they express the best of the terroir.
