A new terroir for the Ruhlmann-Schutz family. After several generations devoted to the great wines of Alsace, the family opened a new chapter of its winemaking history in the south of France. It was in 2015, in Peyriac-de-Mer, south of Narbonne, that the new generation discovered a vineyard nestled in the heart of the maritime Corbieres. Between fragrant garrigue, pine woods and the lagoons of Bages, this Mediterranean land offers a character radically different from the Alsatian landscapes.
The terroir of the maritime Corbières
The vineyard benefits from a remarkable natural environment, typical of the great Languedoc terroirs. The Mediterranean climate offers generous sunshine, relatively low rainfall and permanent ventilation. The Tramontane, a dry northern wind, plays an essential role: it naturally limits the appearance of vine diseases and helps keep the grapes healthy. Added to this is the influence of the sea wind, which brings freshness in summer and helps the vine better resist drought. The soils, made mainly of clay and stony limestone typical of the Corbieres, are free-draining: they force the roots to plunge deep, which promotes aromatic concentration and gives structured, fruity and elegant red wines.

A modern cellar for precision
When they settled in, the owners designed a modern winemaking cellar, thought out to preserve the quality of the grapes as much as possible. The building is semi-buried, which keeps a naturally cool temperature during the Mediterranean summer. The harvested grapes arrive from the upper part, are carefully sorted and then descend by gravity into the fermentation tanks: this gentle method limits mechanical handling and respects the integrity of the fruit. Ageing takes place mainly in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, ensuring precision and aromatic stability; certain cuvees, notably Signature, also benefit from barrel ageing that brings them complexity and depth.
