Château Thuerry, wine estate and Provence wines at the heart of the Var
Château Thuerry
A wine estate of over 300 hectares in the Haut-Var, at 400 metres altitude (Villecroze, Flayosc, Tourtour). Templar roots in the 12th century. Certified organic and HVE. Côtes de Provence, Coteaux Varois and IGP Var. Cuvees Les Abeillons, L'Exception, Les Nature.
There are places where the land tells a story: Château Thuerry is one of them. Located at the heart of the Var country, at the gateway to the Haut-Var-Verdon Regional Natural Park, this emblematic Provence estate roots itself back to the time of the Templars, in the 12th century. The majestic bastide that overlooks the vineyard bears witness to several centuries of history. Here, wine is not only a production: it is a living heritage, handed down and reinvented through the seasons, between Provencal tradition and contemporary exactingness.
An exceptional vineyard in the Haut-Var
The estate spans over 300 hectares of land across the communes of Villecroze, Flayosc and Tourtour, at the heart of a landscape of hills, forests and garrigue. The vineyard benefits from a particularly favourable situation: 400 metres altitude, south-facing exposure, clay-limestone and stony soils, and an environment naturally protected from violent winds and storms. This rare combination allows a slow, balanced ripening of the grapes, ideal to produce fresh, aromatic and structured Provence wines. The altitude brings a precious freshness that preserves the aromatic expression of the varieties and reinforces the natural balance of the wines.
Emblematic varieties and an organic commitment
The vineyard relies on a palette of eight varieties: Syrah, Grenache, Rolle (Vermentino), Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sémillon, Merlot and Mourvèdre. Some plots hold remarkable vines, notably Cinsault planted in 1927, which still today produce particularly elegant rosés. The estate is committed to organic farming and certified HVE, and also makes nature wines, without added sulfites, in natural fermentation thanks to indigenous yeasts.

A precise winemaking, between tradition and modernity
At the estate, quality begins at harvest: the grapes are picked mechanically to quickly gather the fruit at optimal ripeness, then the bunches are hand-sorted on a vibrating table. The grapes are crushed and destemmed, transferred by gravity into the vat room, and vinified in thermo-regulated vats. For certain red cuvees, two wooden vats allow punching-down and pumping-over, to gently extract the structure and the aromas. Ageing continues in stainless-steel vats, concrete vats or French oak barrels. All the wines are bottled at the estate, to preserve their freshness and balance.
The cuvees of Château Thuerry
Several collections each reflect a facet of the vineyard: Les Abeillons (fresh and gourmet), L'Exception (the most accomplished expression of the terroir), Les Nature including Une Thuerry (authentic, without added sulfites), Les Cultes (the emblematic cuvees) and Le Château (the historic identity of Thuerry).
