Château Saint-Martin-de-la-Garrigue: a great Mediterranean estate between sea, garrigue and historical heritage
Located between Béziers and Montpellier, just a few kilometres from the Mediterranean Sea, Château Saint-Martin-de-la-Garrigue embodies the richness and generosity of Languedoc wines. Here, vines thrive in a spectacular environment, surrounded by wild garrigue, pine forests and olive trees, creating a rare balance between preserved nature and human know-how.
The estate covers 63 hectares of vineyards, set within a vast natural area of more than 170 hectares. A living, powerful setting that leaves its unmistakable mark on every wine.
An exceptional terroir shaped by the sea and the hillsides
The vineyards are spread across around forty parcels, mainly planted on east-facing slopes. This exposure provides generous morning sunshine while maintaining natural freshness thanks to Mediterranean sea breezes.
The estate’s gentle altitude tempers intense summer heat and encourages slow, even grape ripening. The soils alternate between:
- red sandy-gravel soils over sandstone, bringing finesse and aromatic expression
- brown limestone soils over soft limestone, ensuring structure and depth
Harvesting begins in September and can extend until mid-October, allowing for precise, parcel-by-parcel and grape-by-grape work.
A historic estate rooted in the long flow of time
Château Saint-Martin-de-la-Garrigue is steeped in history. The vineyard is organised around a 9th-century Romanesque chapel and a Renaissance château, largely built in 1557 and enhanced over the centuries.
Each generation of winegrowers has preserved the soul of the estate while adapting it to its era. This continuity is clearly reflected in the wines, through a strong, sincere and deeply Mediterranean identity.
18 grape varieties expressing the full diversity of Languedoc
The richness of the estate also lies in its remarkable grape variety selection, with 18 varieties grown, including 10 red and 8 white grapes. This diversity allows the exploration of all the nuances of the terroir and the creation of a complete, balanced and approachable range of wines.
The entire vineyard is farmed under certified sustainable viticulture (Terra Vitis), ensuring practices that respect the environment, the soils and the vines.
In the cellar, winemaking combines tradition with modern technology to preserve fruit purity, freshness and the identity of each parcel. The estate produces an average of 300,000 bottles per year, distributed both in France and internationally.
