Château Roche-Lalande: The Elegance of a Historic Terroir, the Vision of a Modern Estate

A terroir shaped by centuries Born in the 17th century, the vineyard of Château Roche-Lalande lies on a mound of deep gravel, a soil typical of the great wines of Pessac-Léognan. This rare composition ensures perfect natural drainage, exceptional thermal regulation, and an exposure that gives the grapes ideal ripeness. Here, each cluster seems to converse with the soil that nurtured it, revealing a vibrant, precise style marked by the finesse characteristic of the Graves. In 2004, Brigitte and José Rodrigues-Lalande took over the estate with one clear ambition: to elevate this heritage to the ranks of the top-tier references of the appellation. Their vision relies on a careful balance of tradition and innovation, with deep respect for the origin of the wines and a desire to unlock their full potential.

A Contemporary Cellar Echoing the Terroir

Long considered simple production spaces, cellars have now become true architectural symbols. The cellar at Château Roche-Lalande stands as one of the most accomplished in the region. Its architecture, sculpted from a façade of pebbles and gravel, directly evokes the soils that gave the Graves their name. Geometric lines, landscape integration and refined materials create a structure in perfect harmony with the surrounding vineyard. Designed with an eco-responsible approach, this state-of-the-art cellar combines advanced technological tools, precise thermal management, high-performance stainless-steel tanks and total respect for the grapes. It is within this setting that the estate’s red and white wines are elevated with precision.

Recognition that Reaches Beyond Wine

This visionary cellar quickly drew the attention of experts. It now appears in the “Architectures et Paysages” collection, co-published by the CAUE of Gironde — a rare distinction that highlights the successful meeting of heritage, contemporary creation and environmental commitment. This recognition strengthens the estate’s identity: a place where history fuels innovation, and where modernity pays homage to the land and to the generations who cultivated it.

Wines that Express the Full Depth of the Graves

The investments made since 2004 have allowed the creation of a range of wines now recognized by international critics. Through several cuvées, the estate reveals different expressions of Pessac-Léognan: – Château Roche-Lalande Red: a distinguished, ample wine, crafted for great occasions, with noble structure and a deep finish.

Château Roche-Lalande White: a bright and surprising white wine, breaking the norms through its balance of freshness and texture.

La Croix Rouge: a dynamic, expressive release designed for adventurous wine lovers.

Les Hauts de Martillac Red: an essential reference of the property, as typical and charming as the famous Bordeaux canelé.

Domaine La Roche Rouge: a gourmet cuvée where crunchy fruit and supple tannins naturally meet.

Campéador Red: a festive, warm cuvée created for gatherings and celebration.

These wines, regularly awarded in international competitions, confirm Château Roche-Lalande as one of the rising estates of Pessac-Léognan.
