An Exceptional Terroir in the Heart of Sauternes.Located in the golden triangle of the appellation — between Sauternes, Bommes, and Preignac — Château Raymond-Lafon covers 18 hectares, 16 of which are under vine. The vineyard lies on gravelly soils over a clay-limestone subsoil, typical of the finest Sauternes estates. This unique composition, combined with ideal exposure and the influence of the Ciron River, encourages the development of Botrytis cinerea — the famous noble rot essential for producing the most prestigious sweet wines. With yields limited to 25 hl/ha, all the richness of the terroir is concentrated into wines that are both intense and complex, with exceptional length. This expertise has earned the château an outstanding score of 17.5 to 18.5/20 from La Revue du Vin de France.

A Family Legacy Driven by Passion

Founded in the mid-19th century by Raymond Lafon, the estate was not included in the 1855 classification due to its recent creation but quickly established itself as a key name in the Sauternes appellation. In the early 20th century, Louis Pontallier inherited the property and contributed to its growth before it was acquired in 1972 by Francine and Pierre Meslier. An agronomist trained in Montpellier, Pierre brought technical precision and high standards to the vineyard, while Francine managed the estate with passion and determination. Since 1990, their children — Marie-Françoise, Charles-Henri, and Jean-Pierre Meslier — have carried on the family’s legacy, combining tradition, precision, and innovation in every vintage.
