Château Peyros, the renaissance of a great Madiran cru by the Lesgourgues Family
Château Peyros - Lesgourgues Family
A great Madiran cru in the Vic-Bilh, in Corbère-Abères, taken over by the Lesgourgues family in 1999. A unique solar terroir, a modern reading of Tannat, a double HVE 3 and Terra Vitis certification, vegan wines. Cuvees Vieilles Vignes and Greenwich 43°N, in AOC Madiran.
For several decades, the Lesgourgues family has shaped estates where wine is never a standardised product, but a work of terroir. Passed down from generation to generation, their wine-growing adventure rests on three inseparable pillars: tradition, innovation and beauty. Today, the third generation runs five emblematic estates of the South-West, in Bas-Armagnac, in the Graves, in Madiran and in Côtes de Blaye, with the same demand: to reveal the deep identity of each place.
Château Peyros, the renaissance of a great Madiran cru
At the dawn of the 21st century, the Lesgourgues family took on a major challenge: to restore all its brilliance to one of the most southern vineyards of the Madiran appellation. In 1999, Château Peyros entered a new era. Located in the Vic-Bilh, at the heart of the confidential village of Corbère-Abères, Peyros takes its name from the Gascon peyros, meaning stony place. A perfect definition for this terroir shaped by Pyrenean moraines, rolled pebbles and a unique microclimate.
A solar terroir, unique in Madiran
Château Peyros is the only estate of Madiran with a full-south exposure on one of its parcels, and south-east on the other. This exceptional orientation favours optimal photosynthesis, perfect ripeness of the grapes and remarkable precision in the wines. The vines rise to nearly 300 metres of altitude, offering a precious thermal amplitude at the end of the season. The soils, composed of silts, sands, clays and pebbles enclosed in clay (the famous pouzzolanes), bring structure, freshness and depth to the wines.

Tannat, revealed with finesse
Here, Tannat, the emblematic grape of Madiran, finds an ideal ground of expression. It is completed with precision by Cabernet Franc, which brings freshness, tension and aromatic elegance. The other grapes authorised by the appellation have been deliberately set aside in order to preserve a clear and sincere reading of the terroir.
A viticulture of results, not of dogmas
At Château Peyros, the philosophy is clear: the estate sees itself as driven by an obligation of results more than of means. It is now double-certified HVE level 3 and Terra Vitis, with a reduction of more than 40% of inputs since the takeover. No chemical weeding, organic amendments only, mechanical soil work, parcel-based micro-vinifications, gentle extractions and measured ageing: each decision seeks a balance between respect for living things and taste excellence. The wines are also vegan, free of allergens, and aged with the precision of a goldsmith.
