Château Peyrelongue, the authenticity of a Saint-Émilion terroir
Château Peyrelongue
A 8.5-hectare family estate on the lands of Saint-Émilion, taken over in 2015 by Christina and Hugues. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon on a pied-de-cotes terroir. Reasoned viticulture. Cuvees La Pierre Longue, Le Phare, L'Étoile.
Set on the prestigious lands of Saint-Émilion, Château Peyrelongue has crossed the generations while preserving a strong identity. Its name refers to the Pierre Longue, a former landmark on the road of the pilgrims of Santiago de Compostela. Here, the vine is not only a heritage: it is a living legacy, shaped by time and the land. Since 2015, Christina and Hugues, with their four children, have taken over the estate with the will to produce sincere, readable wines, able to express the truth of the terroir.
A balanced vineyard, a pied-de-cotes terroir
The estate has 8.5 hectares of vines: Merlot (6 ha) for roundness, suppleness and aromatic intensity; Cabernet Franc (1.5 ha) for elegance, freshness and fine spices; Cabernet Sauvignon (1 ha) for structure, depth and length on the palate. This blend, the signature of Saint-Émilion, gives balanced, harmonious wines able to age with distinction. The vines rest on sandy-clay soils with iron-rich crasse ferrique, a typical element that brings minerality, tension and a geological imprint. The farming is carried out in reasoned viticulture: controlled leaf removal, limited treatments, soil work and thoughtful management.
Winemaking and ageing: precision and respect for the fruit
The harvest is mechanical but hand-sorted at the cellar. Winemaking takes place in concrete and stainless-steel vats to preserve the purity of the juices. Ageing varies by cuvee: in vat to preserve freshness, or in oak barrels to reveal the complexity and structure, notably in the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru where time is an ally. Each cuvee tells the story of a place, but also of a family that cultivates the vine with exactingness and passion.
