Château Motte Maucourt – A Family Heritage at the Heart of Bordeaux Vineyards
A Property Passed Down Through Six Generations. In the heart of Bordeaux, Château Motte Maucourt embodies the passion and continuity of a family of winemakers spanning six generations. Across 50 hectares, the family crafts wines that balance tradition and innovation. The vines, averaging 25 years of age, thrive on clay, clay-limestone, and loamy soils—an ideal combination for expressing the depth and character of Bordeaux varieties.
Two Terroirs, Two Bordeaux Expressions
The estate divides its vineyard between reds, rosés, and whites, each shaped by the soil’s nature:
- 36 hectares of red and rosé Bordeaux planted mainly with Merlot (65%), complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon (25%) and Cabernet Franc (10%).
- 14 hectares of white Bordeaux dominated by Sauvignon (80%), with Sémillon (10%) and Muscadelle (10%).
Clay-limestone soils produce structured, age-worthy reds, while loamy soils bring freshness and brightness to the whites.
Winemaking: Tradition Meets Mastery
The château’s cellar, with a capacity of 6,000 hectoliters, combines modern equipment with traditional methods. Each plot is vinified separately to preserve authenticity and aromatic purity.
- Reds: Fermentation at 25–28°C, macerations of 2–3 weeks for smooth tannins and rich color.
- Rosés and whites: Bottled within 2–3 months to maintain freshness and fruitiness.
- Age-worthy reds: Matured 15–18 months in vats or barrels for roundness and complexity.
