Château Loupiac-Gaudiet: Generations of Excellence in Sweet Wines
Across from Sauternes, just 30 km south of Bordeaux, Château Loupiac-Gaudiet embodies the legacy of several generations of passionate winemakers, devoted to crafting elegant and refined sweet wines under the Loupiac AOC.
A Lineage of Builders and Visionaries
It all began in the 18th century when shipowner Jean Belso built the Château de Loupiac, designed in proportion to his ship. Over time, the estate was shaped by notable figures such as Reinhold Dezeimeris, a Bordeaux scholar and pioneer in the fight against phylloxera, before being acquired in 1919 by Camille Ducau, ancestor of the current family.
Since then, six generations have taken the helm of the estate, united by a shared passion for the vine. Today, Nicolas Sanfourche carries on the family legacy, having joined his parents, Daniel and Marie-Laurence, in 2014.
An Ideal Terroir for Noble Rot
Located in a region blessed with a unique microclimate, the estate covers 30 hectares — 26 under the Loupiac AOC and 4 under the Bordeaux AOC. The vineyard is bathed in the morning mists of the Garonne River, which favor the development of Botrytis cinerea, the naturally occurring fungus that concentrates sugar and aromas in the grapes.
Hand Harvesting for Meticulous Selection
Each grape bunch is harvested by hand in several successive passes to select only those that have reached perfect maturity. This painstaking process ensures consistent quality and pure aromatic expression in every cuvée.
Elegant and Refined Sweet Wines
Sémillon (90%) forms the backbone of the estate's wines, contributing roundness, sweetness, and complexity. Sauvignon Blanc (10%) brings freshness, liveliness, and tension. Together, they create balanced Loupiac sweet wines — less sugary than others in the same family — with subtle aromas and a fresh, silky mouthfeel.
