Château Le Sèpe: Bordeaux Supérieur & Entre-Deux-Mers - Sainte-Radegonde, Gironde
A few kilometres from Saint-Émilion, on the hillsides of Sainte-Radegonde, Catherine and Dominique Guffond made a commitment: take on a Bordeaux vineyard, work it with rigour and patience, and produce wines that genuinely earn their place at the table. Since the 2020 vintage, the entire estate has been certified organic. The very first vintage had already won a gold medal. The trajectory has never changed.
Excellence and organic certification at the heart of the Bordeaux wine country.
History and origins of the estate
After completing their training in viticulture and oenology, Catherine and Dominique Guffond took over Château Le Sèpe in 2009. Two qualified winemakers with a clear direction from the outset: quality cuvées, built on authentic Bordeaux terroir, in the immediate vicinity of the prestigious Saint-Émilion appellation.
The results came quickly: their very first vintage earned a gold medal at the Concours des Vins de Bordeaux, an immediate endorsement that confirmed their vision and laid the foundations for a fast-rising reputation.
An organic commitment built over time
Organic certification process launched in 2017. Official certification obtained from the 2020 vintage onwards. A conviction-driven choice, carried by two winemakers who have always placed nature and the environment at the centre of their work, well before organic became an expected standard in Bordeaux.
The terroir and its unique character
Château Le Sèpe is based in Sainte-Radegonde, a Gironde commune tucked at the gates of Saint-Émilion. This position in the Bordeaux wine country gives the estate a dual identity: the geographical proximity of the Right Bank's greatest terroirs, and the freedom of the Bordeaux Supérieur and Entre-Deux-Mers appellations, allowing the production of both characterful reds and fresh, aromatic whites.
The vineyard covers 14 hectares farmed organically. The two appellations, Bordeaux Supérieur for the reds, Entre-Deux-Mers for the whites, reflect the richness of the terroir and Catherine and Dominique Guffond's desire to explore the full aromatic range that Bordeaux can offer.

Working the vines and our commitments
The organic transition at Château Le Sèpe did not happen overnight. It was built progressively from 2017, a lengthy, exacting conversion that requires rethinking every action in the vineyard before anything changes in the winery. Catherine and Dominique Guffond approached it methodically, guided by a respect for nature and the environment that has always been central to how they work.
The result is tangible: since the 2020 vintage, the entire estate holds the Organic Agriculture certification. A milestone that validates years of commitment and gives lovers of organic Bordeaux wines a sincere, coherent estate whose conviction came well before the label.
Grape varieties and appellations
The estate produces under two complementary appellations. AOC Bordeaux Supérieur for the reds, an appellation that demands higher quality standards than the basic Bordeaux, particularly in terms of yield restrictions and minimum ageing. AOC Entre-Deux-Mers for the whites, one of the most respected white appellations in the Bordeaux wine region, situated between the Garonne and the Dordogne rivers.
This dual identity, characterful reds and fresh whites, allows the estate to offer wines suited to every occasion, throughout a meal and in all circumstances, as Catherine and Dominique Guffond themselves describe it.
The wine style
The wines of Château Le Sèpe are quality wines designed to accompany a meal from start to finish. Not wines built for show, but honest, well-made bottles that hold their own at a Bordeaux table or any table in France.
The gold medal won with the very first vintage is the clearest possible evidence: the quality was already there before the reputation was built. A strong signal that says a great deal about the training and rigour that Catherine and Dominique Guffond brought with them when they took over the estate in 2009.

What you will only find at Château Le Sèpe
Certified organic since the 2020 vintage, committed since 2017. The certification did not arrive as a communication exercise. It is the result of three years of rigorous conversion, launched in 2017. When you open a bottle from the 2020 vintage or more recent, you are holding an organic Bordeaux wine whose commitment predates its label.
At the gates of Saint-Émilion, without the Saint-Émilion price tag. Sainte-Radegonde borders one of the most prestigious, and most expensive, appellations in the world. This estate offers the geographical proximity, the quality of the Right Bank Bordeaux terroir, and award-winning wines from the very first vintage, at a price-to-quality ratio that its famous neighbours can no longer match.
Red and white: two appellations, one level of commitment. Bordeaux Supérieur for the reds, Entre-Deux-Mers for the whites, the estate covers the full range of a complete Bordeaux meal, from the first glass to the cheese course, with the same organic rigour on every cuvée.
A gold medal at the very first vintage. This is not an anecdote, it is a statement of level. The Concours des Vins de Bordeaux is one of the most selective wine competitions in France. Being recognised at the first attempt says everything about the training and precision that Catherine and Dominique Guffond brought with them when they took over in 2009.
Frequently asked questions about Château Le Sèpe
Where is Château Le Sèpe located ?
Château Le Sèpe is located in Sainte-Radegonde, in the Gironde (33), in the Bordeaux wine region, in the immediate vicinity of Saint-Émilion. The estate produces under the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation for its reds and Entre-Deux-Mers for its whites.
Why order Château Le Sèpe wines directly, with no middleman ?
Because every bottle leaves directly from the estate in Sainte-Radegonde, bypassing any intermediate warehouse. You receive the wine in the exact storage conditions maintained by Catherine and Dominique Guffond, at its best, at a fair price, from an organically certified estate with a gold medal to its name from the very first vintage.
Is Château Le Sèpe certified organic ?
Yes. The organic certification process was launched in 2017. Full certification has been in effect since the 2020 vintage. Every wine produced since, whether Bordeaux Supérieur or Entre-Deux-Mers, is certified organic.
What is the difference between Bordeaux Supérieur and Bordeaux ?
The Bordeaux Supérieur appellation sets stricter standards than the basic Bordeaux: lower permitted yields, a higher minimum alcohol level and a mandatory minimum ageing period of one year. It is an appellation that guarantees a higher quality threshold, often at a price that remains very accessible, making it one of the best quality-to-value ratios in the entire Bordeaux wine region.
What food pairs well with Château Le Sèpe wines ?
The Bordeaux Supérieur reds pair beautifully with red meats, roasts, aged cheeses and slow-cooked South-West French dishes. The Entre-Deux-Mers whites, fresh, aromatic and classically Bordelais, come alive alongside oysters from the Arcachon Basin, river fish, seafood platters and summer salads on the terrace.
What is the Entre-Deux-Mers appellation ?
Entre-Deux-Mers is a Bordeaux appellation dedicated exclusively to dry white wines, produced between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers. It is one of the rare white AOCs in the Bordeaux wine region, dominated by Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle, and is recognised for its lively, fresh and aromatic whites. This is where Château Le Sèpe produces its certified organic white cuvées.
