Château La Botte: HVE Pioneer in Haute Gironde, at the Heart of Blaye-Côtes de Bordeaux
An Exceptional Terroir with a Legacy of Expertise
Located in Campugnan, at the place known as "La Botte", about 15 kilometers northeast of Blaye, Château La Botte spans 18 hectares of north-south-facing quaternary clay-limestone slopes. This family-owned vineyard is recognized as the first wine estate in Haute Gironde to receive the HVE (High Environmental Value) certification — a testament to its commitment to sustainable viticulture.
Optimal Exposure and Generational Know-How
Thanks to optimal exposure and vibrant soils, the vines benefit from generous sunlight. For several generations, the Blanchard family has cultivated these vineyards with passion, combining local winemaking traditions with the most relevant oenological advances. This meticulous work results in honest and expressive wines, both typical and unique.
Characterful Wines: Red, White, and Rosé
Red: A blend dominated by Merlot (75%), complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon (15%) and Cabernet Franc (10%). Vinified in tanks with pre-fermentation maceration, long vatting (20 days), and temperature-controlled fermentation. The wines are then aged in tanks or barrels for 12 months, revealing roundness, ripe fruit aromas, and harmonious structure.
Dry White: Mainly composed of Sauvignon (75%) with Sémillon (25%), aged on fine lees for 3 months. This wine charms with its liveliness, finesse, and aromatic brightness.
Bordeaux Rosé: A fruity wine with a bright robe, crafted with care through direct pressing.
Crémant de Bordeaux (white and rosé): Hand-harvested sparkling wines that express the freshness of the terroir with elegance.
Fine Bordeaux: A distilled spirit made from estate wines, reflecting ancestral expertise.
Eco-Conscious Vineyard Practices
The vineyard uses natural grassing one row out of two, combined with double Guyot pruning, leaf thinning, and crop thinning to maintain a perfect vegetative balance. This approach aligns fully with the HVE philosophy, promoting soil health and biodiversity.
A Living Memory Space: "The Museum"
In the tasting room — affectionately called "The Museum" — visitors can explore a collection of antique tools related to viticulture, cooperage, and winemaking trades. These precious relics bear witness to the estate's history and pay tribute to generations of winemakers.
