Château Haut Meneau: a family estate rooted in the history of Bordeaux
Located in the heart of the village of Saint-Paul, within the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, Château Haut Meneau is a family-owned estate passed down from generation to generation. This 20-hectare vineyard is part of a long-standing winegrowing history, shaped by consistency, dedication and high standards.
Classified as a 1st Cru Bourgeois as early as 1874, the estate benefits from a terroir recognised for over a century. Once situated on a stop along the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route, the château continues to embody a spirit of hospitality, transmission and quality.
A south-facing terroir, the signature of Meneau wines
The vines of Château Haut Meneau thrive on south-facing clay-limestone soils, among the most qualitative in the appellation. This privileged exposure encourages even ripening and produces wines that are balanced, deep and elegant.
The vineyard is planted mainly with Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec for red wines, and Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon for whites. This diversity allows the estate to craft harmonious cuvées that remain true to the identity of Blaye.
Organic farming and gentle vineyard management
Since 2009, the estate has been farmed according to organic principles, with official certification obtained in 2012. Vineyard work is carried out parcel by parcel, in order to bring out the best expression of each terroir.
Grapes are quickly transported to the winery, located at the heart of the vineyard, to preserve freshness. A large part of the harvest is carried out by hand, by a skilled and committed local team.
Daily practices favour natural balance:
- gentle pruning adapted to the vigour of each vine,
- mechanical soil work without pesticides,
- canopy height adjusted to soil richness,
- natural aeration of grape clusters to prevent disease,
- green harvesting when necessary to optimise juice concentration.
Artisanal winemaking and controlled ageing
Winemaking is carried out in a traditional, artisanal manner using classic vats. Maceration generally lasts between three and five weeks, allowing for gradual and precise extraction.
Ageing in oak barrels, for a minimum of 12 months depending on the cuvée, adds structure, complexity and ageing potential. Around 80,000 bottles are produced each year, all bottled at the château to ensure full quality control.
