Château Haut La Valette – The Art of Wine, a Family Story

A Family Tradition in the Heart of Blaye. Since 1978, Château Haut La Valette has embodied the passion of a family devoted to the vine. Located in the heart of the Blaye region, the estate spans 22 hectares of gently rolling hills, caressed by the beneficial influences of the Gironde estuary. At its helm, Jean-Michel Bergeron, heir to his father Alban’s vineyard, has preserved and enhanced this legacy with meticulous and sustainable expertise.

In 2008, his son Cédric joined the adventure. Together, they blend tradition and innovation to craft sincere, elegant, and balanced wines — faithful reflections of their terroir. Their philosophy: to cultivate excellence without artifice, letting nature and fruit speak for themselves.

An Exceptional Terroir of Clay and Limestone

The vineyard of Château Haut La Valette lies on a mosaic of soils — clay-limestone, clay-sandy, and red clay. This geological diversity gives the wines a rich, nuanced aromatic palette. With south and southwest exposures, the vines benefit from a mild oceanic microclimate moderated by the Gironde, allowing slow and complete ripening of the grapes.

The estate’s emblematic grape varieties — Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon — yield wines that are both powerful and supple, blending structure, elegance, and generosity.

Craftsmanship Passed from Father to Son

The philosophy at Château Haut La Valette rests on a simple truth: quality begins in the vineyard. Jean-Michel’s deep viticultural experience ensures grapes of remarkable purity, while Cédric’s oenological expertise refines each cuvée to express the full potential of the vintage. The father-son duo shares the same values — respect, precision, and passion — producing wines that are both authentic and contemporary.

The Wines of Château Haut La Valette

  • Cédric Bergeron – Ode à l’Amóni: 100% Merlot, aged 14 months in new oak barrels. A cellar-worthy wine (10–12 years), dense yet refined, symbolizing the next generation’s expertise.
  • Bergeron Vignerons – Lignée Merlot: 100% Merlot, vat-fermented to showcase fruit purity. A smooth, harmonious wine to enjoy young (within 3 years).

Between Passion, Heritage and Excellence

At Château Haut La Valette, each vintage tells a story — that of a family bound by the land, craftsmanship, and the pursuit of shared pleasure. Father and son create wines in their own image: generous, sincere, and deeply respectful of the Blaye terroir.
