Château Enclos Haut Mazeyres - exceptional Pomerol wines shaped by women of passion since 1830, at the heart of one of Bordeaux's greatest terroirs

In Pomerol, where Merlot finds its most velvety and profound expression, Château Enclos Haut Mazeyres stands apart through one absolute singularity: since 1830, this estate has passed from mother to daughter, without interruption. Nine hectares in a single block, encircled by their own vines like a fortress of earth and clay, carried today by Marianne de Pedro, who upholds a two-centuries-old legacy while breathing into it a resolutely contemporary vision.

When the soul of women magnifies the fruit of the vine, it reveals authentic wines, so many occasions to share. That is the estate's motto. It is also, vintage after vintage, what you find in every glass.

Two centuries of a female legacy

It all begins in 1830, when the property enters a female family line that would never be broken. Marie Laure Dubois Souillé ran the estate until 1985. Françoise Souillé de Pedro succeeded her and led the château until 2018. Then came Marianne de Pedro, heir to this know-how built up over nearly two centuries, who took up the reins with a clear intention: to honour what she received by carrying it towards the future.

Supported by her husband Yoann, Marianne has drawn the estate into a new momentum without ever breaking with the deep identity of the place. New cuvées, an opening to wine tourism, a presence at the most prestigious gala dinners in Europe: Château Enclos Haut Mazeyres today shines far beyond Pomerol, while remaining what it has always been - a family property, intimate and demanding.

The Pomerol terroir: clay, gravel and iron-rich hardpan

Pomerol is the smallest of Bordeaux's great vineyards, and one of the most mysterious. On this almost unremarkable Gironde plateau, the subsoil tells an exceptional geological story. Château Enclos Haut Mazeyres rests on terraces of clay, gravel and, above all, crasse de fer, this unique ferruginous layer that crowns the finest terroirs of the appellation and which is said to retain moisture in summer while draining excess water in winter.

On this mineral, complex soil, vines of 40 to 60 years plunge their roots deep, drawing on matter that young vines cannot reach. The result: concentrated grapes of controlled ripeness, harvested by hand plot by plot by a team of nearly 50 people over six to seven days across three weeks. Nothing is left to chance, nothing is mechanised where the human hand does better.

Clay and iron-rich hardpan - Summer water retention · Winter drainage · Distinctive minerality
Gravel - Stored heat · Steady ripening of the Merlot · Natural elegance
Vines 40-60 years old - Deep rooting · Controlled yields · Concentration and complexity
9 ha in a single block - Terroir coherence · Homogeneous plot expression

Tradition, precision and biodiversity: the château's know-how

At the château, the vine is tended according to the most demanding principles of sustainable viticulture. The soils are worked mechanically, without ever resorting to herbicides or non-natural additives. The estate's sixty or so trees, several of them century-old, shelter birds that naturally regulate populations of harmful insects. The mating-disruption technique, diffusing pheromones, keeps pest moths away without any chemical treatment.

In the cellar, the cellar master and his team take a bespoke approach: each plot is vinified separately, according to its own personality. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats over three to four weeks. Malolactic fermentation continues in barrels. Ageing then lasts between 18 and 24 months in French oak casks, notably from the Allier, chosen for their perfect harmony with the wines of Pomerol. Every bottle is bottled directly and exclusively at the property.

Manual harvest, plot by plot

Each plot is picked at its ideal ripeness, by a team of nearly 50 people over three weeks. This choice of the manual harvest ensures a rigorous selection of the grapes and perfect control of quality from the moment of picking.

Full barrel vinification for the exceptional cuvées

For the Intégrales cuvées - Héritières, EHM and C Franc - vinification takes place entirely in barrel, from fermentation through to bottling. This exceptional process gives the wines a texture and depth unattainable otherwise.

18 to 24 months in French oak casks from the Allier

The long ageing in 300 and 400 L casks from French forests, notably the Allier, gives the wines their characteristic oaked finesse, without ever masking the fruit or the terroir. It is the perfect alliance between the cooper's craft and the expression of Pomerol.

The wines of Château Enclos Haut Mazeyres: two ranges, one same standard

The estate's range is built around two families: the Classic Cuvées, silky and approachable, and the Intégrales Cuvées, vinified entirely in barrel for those seeking the quintessence of Pomerol. From the introductory wine to the great occasions, each bottle carries the imprint of the women who shaped this estate.

The Classic Cuvées

Château Hermitage Mazeyres

Pomerol AOP · 50% Merlot, 50% Cabernet Franc · Barrel and vat ageing · 10,000 to 20,000 bottles/year · Gold Medal Gilbert & Gaillard 2026

The gateway cuvée into the estate's world, and already a Pomerol with character. The equal blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc gives rise to a silky, fruity wine with light tannins and immediate elegance. Vinified in barrels and vats at 50/50, hand-harvested. For those discovering Pomerol or seeking a wine to share without ceremony, but with style.

Miss Juliette

Pomerol AOP · 50% Merlot, 50% Cabernet Franc · Second wine of Ch. Hermitage Mazeyres · Vat ageing · 5,000 to 10,000 bottles/year

The second wine of Château Hermitage Mazeyres, Miss Juliette shares the same aromatic DNA - silky, fruity, light and elegant tannins - in a more approachable, more immediate expression. Aged in vats, it expresses the fruit in its most direct freshness. The Pomerol for every day, without sacrificing personality.

Château Enclos Haut Mazeyres

Pomerol AOP · 100% Merlot · Ageing 18-24 months in new 300 and 400 L casks · 20,000 bottles/year · 92 pts Wine Enthusiast · 94 pts Gilbert & Gaillard 2026 · 93 pts Andreas Larsson

The estate's signature wine. 100% Merlot aged 18 to 24 months in new French barrels of 300 and 400 litres, a precise approach that gives the wine its deep, velvety texture. Truffle, deep red fruits, fine freshness, silky tannins: a Pomerol that combines power and elegance, faithful to its crasse de fer terroir. Notes of violet, wild berries, blackcurrant, buttery caramel and soft oak depending on the vintage. A great wine for cellaring.

The Intégrales Cuvées

Héritières

Pomerol AOP · 100% Merlot old vines · Full barrel vinification · 1,000 bottles/year · 93 pts Gilbert & Gaillard 2026 · 94 pts Andreas Larsson

The cuvée that pays tribute to the women who made this estate. 100% Merlot from old vines, vinified and aged entirely in barrel. A great delicacy carried by fine density - truffle, violet, jammy black fruits, candied cherry. Fresh, intense and velvety. Only 1,000 bottles a year: an absolute rarity that embodies two centuries of female legacy in a single glass.

EHM

Pomerol AOP · 50% Merlot, 50% Cabernet Franc · Full barrel vinification · 600 bottles/year · 92 pts Andreas Larsson

The blend with character: 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc, vinified entirely in barrel. Deep, dense, with an intense, floral nose of violet, rose petal and blackcurrant. On the palate: warmth, volume, grainy tannins and toasted notes, flavours of dark berries and a long, persistent finish. The Pomerol for great cellars, the one you bring out for the occasions that deserve it.

C Franc

Pomerol AOP · 100% Cabernet Franc · Full barrel vinification · 600 bottles/year · A cuvée atypical for the appellation

The estate's boldest cuvée, and one of the rarest in the appellation. 100% Cabernet Franc vinified entirely in barrel: great elegance and fine density, with aromas of jammy red fruits underpinned by a deep, velvety frame. What sets Château Enclos Haut Mazeyres apart from other Pomerol properties?

Three singularities make this estate unique. First, its unbroken transmission from mother to daughter since 1830, an absolute rarity in Pomerol. Finally, the presence of Malbec in the grape mix, atypical for the appellation, which brings depth and originality to the blends.

What is full barrel vinification?

Full barrel vinification means the wine is fermented and aged in the same cask, from its birth through to bottling. This rare process gives the wine a perfect integration between fruit and wood, a unique texture and an aromatic depth impossible to obtain otherwise. The estate's Héritières, EHM and C Franc cuvées are made according to this demanding method.
