Château du Glana, a Saint-Julien of the Meffre family

Château du Glana

A Saint-Julien of the Meffre family, between Beychevelle and Saint-Julien, opposite Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. 59 hectares in a single block on the Saint-Julien appellation, a Medoc blend led by Cabernet-Sauvignon. A grand vin and its second wine, direct from the owner.

Built in 1870, Château du Glana is located on the Route des Grands Vins of Bordeaux, along the Gironde estuary, between the villages of Beychevelle and Saint-Julien, just opposite Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. The vineyard owes its origin to the division of Château Saint-Pierre, a Fourth Growth classified in 1855. In 1961, Gabriel Meffre, a renowned nurseryman from the Vaucluse, acquired it: the area grew from five to forty-three hectares, thanks to parcels of Château Lagrange, a Third Growth of Saint-Julien.

The modern management and ambition of Château du Glana

His son, Jean-Paul Meffre, and his grandsons, Ludovic and Julien, manage the property today and show great ambitions for it, notably that of bringing out an untapped potential. Year after year, a long work, based on in-depth reflection and a complete reworking of the vineyard, gives rise to modern wines that embody the elegance, spirit and authenticity of their terroir. The complete restoration of the buildings in 2003 (vat room, harvest reception, barrel cellar, offices, reception room), the care given to the vineyard and the advice of Professor Denis Dubourdieu converge towards a judicious balance between modern methods and respect for tradition.

59 hectares in the heart of Saint-Julien

Now made up of 59 hectares of vines almost in a single block, the vineyard of Château du Glana is located on the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation, which counts around 90% of Grands Crus Classes. A great terroir of the left bank of the Medoc, for balanced, velvety and complex wines.
