On 3.75 hectares of biodynamic Gamay, they reveal all the granite strength of Moulin-a-Vent, to discover direct.

A life project, a living ecosystem

Since 2007, Nathalie and Eric Boyer have undertaken to restore the château, bring the land back to life and build a place where wine is cultivated as much as respect for the living. The estate is an ecosystem in its own right, where sheep, poultry and horses help maintain the soils. This animal presence, together with the care given to the vines, gives the place a rare harmony. Throughout the year, the château also hosts cultural events, and visitors are welcomed in the estate's guest rooms as well as in the Orangerie dedicated to tastings: a place where the soul of Gamay is revealed in all authenticity.

Frequently asked questions about Château des Gimarets

Where is Château des Gimarets located?

Chateau des Gimarets is located in Romaneche-Thorins (71570), in Saone-et-Loire, in the heart of the Moulin-a-Vent appellation, one of the ten crus of Beaujolais. The estate covers 3.75 hectares of vines on granite soils.

Who owns Château des Gimarets?

Since 2007, Nathalie and Eric Boyer have made Chateau des Gimarets a true life project: restoring the château, bringing the land back to life and building a place where wine is cultivated as much as respect for the living.

Are the Château des Gimarets wines organic and biodynamic?

Yes: the estate works in organic and biodynamic farming, with a certification obtained in 2020. It is notably certified Demeter biodynamic. 100% manual harvesting and natural vinification complete this approach, at the service of the purest expression of the terroir.

Which grape does Château des Gimarets grow?

The estate grows exclusively Gamay, the emblematic grape of Beaujolais and of the Moulin-a-Vent cru. On the estate's poor, free-draining granite soils, this grape gives deep, structured wines for keeping, far from the image of light Beaujolais.

What are the cuvees of Château des Gimarets?

The estate offers several cuvees in AOC Moulin-a-Vent, all biodynamic Gamay: Celeste, Quintessence, Hommage and Harmonie. The most recent cuvees (such as Celeste and Quintessence) sit alongside already evolved keeping vintages (Hommage, Harmonie), which show the wines' ageing potential.

What is the Moulin-à-Vent appellation?

Moulin-a-Vent is one of the ten crus of Beaujolais, renowned for its Gamay wines among the deepest and most suited to keeping. Its granite soils, rich in manganese, give structured, tannic and complex wines, often compared to great keeping wines of neighbouring Burgundy.

What are biodynamics and the Demeter label?

Biodynamics is a form of farming that considers the estate as a living organism, relying on natural preparations and the rhythm of the living. Demeter is the main biodynamic certification label. At Chateau des Gimarets, it is also expressed through an ecosystem where sheep, poultry and horses help maintain the soils.

What characterises the terroir of Château des Gimarets?

Why is the production of Château des Gimarets limited?

Production is deliberately limited to about 12,000 bottles a year, on only 3.75 hectares. This choice, with 100% manual harvesting, rigorous selection and natural vinification, ensures rare cuvees, carried by meticulous and sincere work.
