Château de Tracy – Eight Centuries of History Serving Pouilly-Fumé
A Historic Pouilly-Fumé Estate Since 1396. Château de Tracy is one of the oldest estates in Pouilly-Fumé, with a written record from 1396 mentioning the purchase of the Champ de Cris, still planted with Sauvignon Blanc today. In 1586, the union of François Stutt and Françoise de Bar marked the beginning of an unbroken family lineage, a rarity in French wine history.
Overlooking the Loire from its rocky spur, the château features a Renaissance gate, a medieval keep and distinctive slate roofs – a unique setting where history and vine come together.
Château de Tracy – A Heritage of Great History and Great Winemaking
Across the centuries, the estate has been shaped by influential figures. In the 18th century, d’Estutt de Tracy, friend of La Fayette and correspondent of Thomas Jefferson, contributed to spreading new ideas in France and the United States.
His son Victor, first major of Polytechnique and Minister of the Navy, advocated for the abolition of slavery. This intellectual depth continues to influence the estate’s pursuit of excellence.
An Exceptional Pouilly-Fumé Born from Demanding Viticulture
Under the direction of Juliette d’Assay, the domaine follows sustainable practices certified at the highest level of Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE 3). Soil work is entirely mechanical, insecticides are banned, yields limited through green harvesting and parcels carefully selected.
Each plot is vinified separately and tasted blind before blending, revealing the purity of Sauvignon Blanc and enhancing the distinctive mineral signature of Pouilly-Fumé.
Flint and Limestone Soils for a Unique Mineral Profile
The vineyard, located between the Tracy hill and the Champ de Cris plateau, is built upon two key soil types:
– Flint clays: power, tension, “gunflint” aroma typical of Pouilly-Fumé;
– Kimmeridgian & Portlandian limestones: elegance, length, refined aromatics.
The combination produces precise, structured wines with citrus notes, vibrant minerality and a sharp, chiseled finish.
