Château de Sannes – Biodiversity as a way of life in the Luberon
A living estate in the heart of the Luberon. Located in the southern Luberon, surrounded by Ansouis, Lourmarin, Cucuron and La Tour-d’Aigues, Château de Sannes stretches like a suspended moment in time. Vines, lavender fields, forests and olive trees shape a bright Provençal landscape.
Nestled within the Luberon Regional Natural Park, the estate stands at the crossroads between Provence and the Rhône Valley, giving rise to wines that are fresh, elegant and deeply rooted in biodiversity.
A centuries-old story, reinvented in 2017
Celts and Romans: the first traces. Celtic settlements, Roman remains and sarcophagi reveal early occupation of the land around the Via Domitia.
1603 – Birth of the estate: Jean de Tisati acquires the land, structures the domaine and builds the bastide. His son Melchior expands it into a seigneurial property.
The Saqui-Sannes legacy: From the late 17th century, the family shapes the estate for nearly 300 years.
From phylloxera to rebirth: The vineyard is devastated in the 19th century. The revival comes in the 1970s with new plantings and a modern winery. Later, Lord Paul and Lady Hamlyn restore the estate but stop winemaking.
2017 – The Gattaz Family reignites the flame: Vineyard restructuring, new plantings, a new winery (2020), organic conversion: Sannes awakens with the ambition of becoming a model of sustainable excellence.
A sanctuary of biodiversity
On 75 hectares: 35 ha of vines, 10 ha of forest, 10 ha of formal gardens, 320 olive trees, 2.5 ha of lavender, a truffle orchard, agricultural fields and bee hives.
A committed sustainable approach
Organic conversion in 2017, certification in 2020. No chemicals, soil cultivation, organic compost: biodiversity is the core of the estate’s philosophy.
