Château de Rochefort: A Family Estate Reviving the Muscadet of La Haye-Fouassière

A Revival Driven by a Dedicated Family. Located south of Nantes, in the heart of one of Muscadet’s most iconic terroirs, Château de Rochefort has been writing a new chapter of its history since 2018. Guillaume and Marine de Rosnay, together with their six children, took over this century-old estate with a clear ambition: preserve its heritage while elevating it to an exemplary level of quality.

Their family energy, high standards and deep attachment to the land have brought renewed vitality to the estate, guided by a modern, humane and environmentally respectful vision.

An Exceptional Terroir Shaped by the Armorican Massif

The vines of Château de Rochefort are planted exclusively with Melon de Bourgogne, the emblematic grape of Muscadet. They grow in sandy, slightly loamy soils enriched with organic matter, where the bedrock appears just 40 cm below the surface: orthogneiss, a rare and noble form of metamorphosed granite.

This unique geological foundation brings:

• sharp, vibrant minerality,
• remarkable aromatic finesse,
• a natural tension characteristic of great Muscadets.

Thanks to this singularity, the entire estate qualifies for the Cru Communal La Haye-Fouassière appellation — one of the most sought-after crus in the Nantes vineyard.

A Committed and Respectful Approach to Viticulture

Château de Rochefort continues the philosophy of its original founder: a demanding vision focused on quality and respect for nature. Today, the de Rosnay family maintains this approach by limiting interventions to the bare essentials.

Their work is based on:

• reasoned, sustainable viticulture,
• very limited treatments,
• yields deliberately kept around 40 hl/ha.

The result: concentrated grapes, pure aromas and Muscadets with strong identity — wines known for their freshness, intensity and elegant minerality.
