A living estate since 1251. Located in Blacé, at the heart of Beaujolais, Château de Pravins is one of the oldest estates still in operation in France. First mentioned in 1251, it has crossed the centuries while keeping its medieval architecture and its rural spirit. Listed as a National Heritage site, this vineyard combines vines, park and meadows in a living, preserved ecosystem.

A human and heritage history

From the lords of la Bessée to the Damas, Menut, Chartier then Brossard families, each generation has marked the identity of the estate. Since 2005, Isabelle Brossard has continued the restoration of the château while reviving its original winegrowing vocation. Surrounded by a passionate team, she has made the estate a model of balance between heritage and ecology.

An organic vineyard committed to biodynamics

Converted to organic farming from 2010, Château de Pravins obtained Ecocert certification in 2013, then the Demeter label in 2023. Guided by biodynamics and agroecology, the estate cultivates the vine with an absolute respect for the living world: a permanent cover crop to feed and protect the soils, planting of hedges and trees to favour biodiversity, gentle manual pruning respecting the vine's physiology, fermented plant preparations to strengthen the vine, and vinifications with no chemical inputs or added sulphites. This patient work has restored the microbial life of the soils and gives sincere, living wines vibrant with energy.

Terroir, grapes and winemaking: authentic Beaujolais

The vineyard covers 5 hectares in a single block, planted on soils of silty-sandy clays and moraine. The traditional Beaujolais grapes find a pure expression here: Gamay noir à jus blanc for the reds and rosés, Chardonnay and a touch of Viognier for the whites and Crémants. Fermentations are slow, at low temperature, without exogenous yeasts; no fining or filtration. The reds follow semi-carbonic maceration, typical of Beaujolais, and the Crémants the traditional method, with lees ageing.
