Château Cantelauze: an exceptional terroir in AOC Cahors

Château Cantelauze

An organic estate in Duravel, in AOC Cahors, acquired in 2011 by Marcel Mezy. 12 hectares (Malbec and Merlot), two climates and two soils, certified organic since 2015. Plot-selection cuvee Le Trejet.

Located in Duravel, within the AOC Cahors, Château Cantelauze enjoys an exceptional terroir, influenced by two climates, Atlantic and Mediterranean. Its 12 hectares of vines, including 10 hectares of Malbec and 1.6 hectares of Merlot, are spread over two distinct soil types, for authentic, elegant and generous wines.

An exceptional terroir, two soils and two climates

The estate's 12 hectares are spread over two terroirs: a clay-limestone soil with gravels and limestone scree, which gives powerful, structured wines; and a clay-silt soil with rolled pebbles, which produces more fruity wines with supple tannins. Recently, a 0.4-hectare plot was grafted with white grapes (Sauvignon Gris and Gros Manseng), marking a new step in the estate's diversity.

A commitment to organic farming

Since its acquisition in 2011 by Marcel Mezy, Château Cantelauze has been part of an ecological and sustainable approach. Thanks to the Marcel Mezy Technologies (TMM), recognised for their positive environmental impact, the estate obtained organic certification as early as 2015. Well before that, in 2014, analyses already revealed the total absence of pesticides in the wines. The TMM, described as a 3rd agricultural revolution by experts, allow a natural fertilisation of the soils, reducing water and chemical-input consumption while favouring a balanced yield and an optimal concentration of the fruit.

The Le Tréjet cuvee and a precision cellar

The estate relies on a rigorous plot-by-plot approach, notably with the Le Trejet cuvee, from an 80-are vine: a purely Malbec cuvee, the excellence of Cahors wine, with controlled ageing and remarkable cellaring potential. The temperature-controlled cellar houses 16 stainless-steel vats for a separate vinification of the grapes before blending; ageing in oak barrels gives the wines a fine aromatic complexity, with notes of black fruit, spices and delicate oak.

Elegant and generous wines

The wines of Château Cantelauze charm with their balance and controlled power. Malbec, the emblematic grape of Cahors, brings structure and depth, while Merlot, in a smaller proportion, softens the whole with round, silky aromas. These wines pair perfectly with red meats, dishes of character and a cheese platter: every bottle offers an authentic tasting experience.

Beyond wine production, Marcel Mezy and his team are committed to a sustainable agriculture, favouring living, fertile soils, in an approach of preserving natural resources and fighting climate change, notably through the fixation of carbon in the soils. Between traditional savoir-faire and environmental innovation, from low but controlled yields, its wines reflect all the richness of their land.
