Château Canon Montségur, boldness at the heart of Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux

Château Canon Montségur

A 26-hectare single-block estate in Salles-de-Castillon, in Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux. Created by Sébastien Pelard, heir to an agricultural lineage since 1640. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon. Sustainable viticulture.

Château Canon Montségur carries within it a history written for more than three hundred years. Sébastien Pelard, heir to an agricultural lineage settled in Salles-de-Castillon since 1640, long worked the land in large-scale farming before feeling the call of the vineyard. With 25 years of experience, he decided to open a new chapter by creating an estate in his image: bold, respectful of living systems and deeply rooted in the enhancement of his terroir.

A privileged terroir at the heart of Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux

The estate spans 26 hectares in a single block, a rare advantage in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. The clay-loam and clay-limestone soils nourish the vines with balance and finesse, offering an ideal terrain for the traditional Bordeaux varieties. The plantings reveal a search for harmony and structure: Merlot (47%) for silkiness, roundness and generosity; Cabernet Franc (41%) for aromatic finesse and elegance; Cabernet Sauvignon (12%) for depth, power and character. With an average age of 40 years, the vines express the maturity of the terroir and produce dense, complex and perfectly balanced wines.

An agriculture turned towards biodiversity and the long term

Sébastien Pelard imagines his vineyard as a living ecosystem. Château Canon Montségur practises a sustainable viticulture, respectful of the soils and far from any aggressive practice: mechanical weeding to preserve microbial life, green manure to enrich and protect the soils, reasoned cultural practices and a creative agronomic approach, inspired by the observation of living systems. An approach that reinforces biodiversity and ensures healthy, precise and sincere wines.

A contemporary winemaking to enhance the terroir

To reveal all the singularity of his terroir, Château Canon Montségur adopts a plural and controlled approach to winemaking. Each material becomes a tool serving the precision and purity of the wine: wood vats for a gentle micro-oxygenation, thermo-regulated steel vats for a precise control of fermentations, concrete vats for thermal stability and roundness, and ageing in amphorae combined with barrels to preserve the freshness of the fruit while refining the texture. This alliance of innovation and tradition allows the creation of elegant, vibrant and deep wines, true interpreters of the Castillon terroir.
