Château Branas Grand Poujeaux – The Excellence of Moulis-en-Médoc

An exceptional estate at the heart of the Médoc. In the centre of the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation, one of the most discreet in Bordeaux, Château Branas Grand Poujeaux stands as a benchmark in quality. Its 17 hectares, perfectly located between Margaux, Saint-Julien and Pauillac, have earned it comparisons to Classified Growths by top tasters.

This success rests on a rare marriage: exceptional terroir, modern vision, and relentless precision.

A rare terroir: the Grand Poujeaux plateau

The estate sits on one of the Médoc’s finest terroirs: the Grand Poujeaux plateau. These Guntzian gravel soils, lying over limestone similar to that of Pauillac and Margaux’s first growths, offer perfect drainage and deep rooting.

Typical Médoc blend:

  • Merlot (50%): roundness, silkiness, colour and generosity.
  • Cabernet Sauvignon (45%): tension, structure, aromatic intensity, ageing potential.
  • Petit Verdot (5%): power, personality, spicy depth.

The 12 parcels are vinified separately to preserve identity and create complexity.

A vision of respect, precision and ambition

The renewal began in 2002 when Justin Onclin acquired the estate and brought a new dynamic, blending heritage and controlled modernity.

Since then, the quality rise has been spectacular. The team’s talent is strengthened by the expertise of Hubert de Boüard of Château Angélus.

A responsible, certified and exemplary viticulture

Since 2018, the estate has been certified HVE3, the highest level of environmental recognition.

  • parcel-specific pruning,
  • continuous soil monitoring,
  • manual harvesting in crates,
  • double sorting,
  • precise, reasoned interventions.

This meticulous work ensures healthy, expressive fruit.

Bespoke ageing, between tradition and innovation

Parcel-based and gravity-fed vinification in wooden and stainless-steel tanks. Ageing for 15–18 months:

  • 225 L barrels (50% new, 50% one wine),
  • 750 L amphorae for 10% of production.
