CHAMPAGNE JEAN JOSSELIN – A Philosophy Born from the Land and Time

Since the very beginning, the Josselin family has upheld an independent vision of champagne. No compromise, no artifice: only terroir-driven wines, deeply expressive of their identity, where the rare balance between soil, grape variety, climate and the winemaker’s hand can be felt. This approach, patiently built generation after generation, guides each of our decisions. We have chosen to vinify only our own grapes in order to fully control their origin and quality. In the vineyard, we work with nature, never against it: zero herbicides, ploughed or grass-covered soils, plant-based preparations, TERRA VITIS and High Environmental Value certifications. Every decision is made to respect life, protect the ecosystem and preserve the character of our terroirs. Patience is part of our DNA. We harvest when the grapes reach their ideal ripeness—never before. Each lieu-dit has its own voice, and our role is to listen. Finally, we have chosen a Burgundian-style vinification: plot by plot, grape variety by grape variety, to preserve the identity of each wine and give it the long ageing it deserves, both in the cellar and in the bottle.

Terroir-Driven Champagnes, Sincere and Singular

This conviction gives birth to precise champagnes, most often produced from a single year, a single grape variety or a very small group of parcels. A way to reveal the strength of the terroir without any filter, straight from the soil to the glass. To accompany this identity, we imagined an artistic packaging entirely dedicated to the terroirs. Artist Jérémy Magniez created six original illustrations, drawn dot by dot, embodying the complexity of our soils, the spirit of our cuvées and the intimate bond between our parcels.

An Intimate Vineyard in the Heart of the Côte des Bar

Our vineyard comprises 14 parcels located mainly in Gyé-sur-Seine and Neuville-sur-Seine. To reach them, you must cross woods, valleys and hidden paths. There, far from the noise of the world, the vines live in near-religious calm, guided by the rhythm of the moon, the seasons, the wind and local wildlife. The family story begins in 1854, when the Josselin family acquired its first parcel in Gyé-sur-Seine, a charming village crossed by the Seine River. Later, Jean Josselin shaped a vineyard on some of the region’s most beautiful hillsides: Beauregard, Davasgné, Cosvigne… In 1957, he founded his own brand: Champagne Jean Josselin. An adventure that continues today. Each parcel is unique. The winegrower chooses the rootstock, the grape variety, the vineyard management, the yields. The diversity of exposures and soils naturally enriches our wines and offers an aromatic palette of remarkable precision.

Three Grapes, One Terroir: The Pure Expression of Pinot Noir

We cultivate the three Champagne grape varieties in a marked continental climate, on soft clay-limestone soils. Pinot Noir, the king grape of the Côte des Bar, finds incomparable depth here. The Kimmeridgian marl—Jurassic rocks rich in fossils—brings elegance, finesse and the delicate fruitiness that defines our wines. Thanks to plot-by-plot vinification, we learn each year to understand our lands more deeply. It is a work of patience, observation and humility—an endless quest to reveal the character of each parcel.

Our Exceptional Cuvées

Aux Origines – Vintage Extra Brut A 100% Pinot Noir vintage, illustrated with a root system. These roots symbolise the origin of our champagnes, the strength of the land and the importance of preserving the soils so that the vine can draw deeply from the mother rock. Audace – Rosé Extra Brut A true rosé made by maceration. The label highlights two essential tools: • the “drain”, used to moisten the skins and encourage colour extraction, • the “pigeou”, used to push the skins into the juice to intensify the dialogue between colour and aromas. A rosé of character—vibrant, precise and expressive. Les Blancs – Vintage Extra Brut A 100% Chardonnay vintage, shaped by the purity of the limestone marl beneath our vineyard. This sedimentary rock gives the wine its tension, salinity and dazzling minerality.

A Signature: Independence, Authenticity, Terroir

Champagne Jean Josselin is a committed family, preserved lands, precise know-how and an unwavering will: to create sincere, profound champagnes marked by their place of origin. Wines that tell a story—the story of a rare terroir and of those who honour it.
