Champagne Fernand Lemaire: A Family Heritage in Hautvillers 1er Cru
Four Generations Dedicated to Excellence. Since 1903, Champagne Fernand Lemaire has embodied a unique family story, shaped by passion and the transmission of Champagne know-how. Fernand, a visionary and independent winemaker, was the first to craft his cuvées in his own press and chalk-carved cellar.
From one generation to the next, Robert, then Frédéric and Christine, expanded the vineyard and enhanced the estate’s reputation in France and abroad. Today, Hélène and Benoît, great-grandchildren of the founder, continue the adventure by bringing new energy while honoring the family heritage.
An Exceptional Terroir: Hautvillers, 1er Cru of the Marne Valley
The estate covers 7 hectares divided into 24 plots in the heart of Hautvillers, the emblematic village of Dom Pérignon, known as the “cradle of Champagne.”
Classified as Premier Cru, this terroir benefits from chalk-rich soils and optimal sunlight, offering the three Champagne grape varieties – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Meunier – remarkable expression. The vineyard is cultivated with sustainable practices and certified HVE (High Environmental Value), ensuring respect for biodiversity and the vines.
Authentic and Precise Winemaking
Every stage of production is carried out on the estate, in the tradition of Champagne’s Independent Winegrowers. The 1960 vertical press, with a capacity of 2000 kg, allows for a delicate extraction of the musts. The juices are then vinified in small tanks to preserve the typicity of each plot.
The champagnes rest in cellars for at least 30 months, and up to 10 years for certain cuvées, in chalk galleries at a constant temperature. This long aging process brings aromatic complexity and incomparable elegance.
