Champagne Boutillez-Vignon: The singular expression of Chardonnay in Villers-Marmery

In the heart of the Montagne de Reims, there is a village unlike any other.

In Villers-Marmery, where Pinot Noir usually dominates, Chardonnay reigns almost alone.

This is where the Boutillez-Vignon family has cultivated vines for centuries. Where history, precision and creativity meet to produce luminous, vibrant and deeply elegant Premier Cru Champagnes.

Since 2010, the new generation has carried the family story forward with the same commitment: preserving heritage while adding their own signature.

A family estate rooted since the 16th century

The first traces of the Boutillez family in Villers-Marmery date back to the 16th century. Here, viticulture is not just a profession — it is a culture.

In 1964, Gérard Boutillez officially founded the estate. With Colette, herself from a winegrowing family, they launched their own label in 1974. Their vision was clear: craft Champagne true to its terroir — precise, structured and never standardized.

In 2010, their children took over the House. A close-knit and complementary trio, driven by the desire to refine the style while respecting the soul of the estate.

Women have always played a central role at Boutillez-Vignon. Germaine, Nelly, Colette — strong figures who shaped the history and reinforced the identity of the House.

Villers-Marmery: an exceptional Champagne terroir

Villers-Marmery is a Premier Cru village located at the eastern edge of the Montagne de Reims. Its distinctive feature? 99% Chardonnay.

On clay-loam soils where chalk rises close to the surface, Chardonnay develops natural tension, chalky minerality and remarkable freshness.

This terroir produces Champagnes that are:

luminous
finely cut
marked by citrus and white flower aromas
with a saline, elegant finish

This signature is what sets the Boutillez-Vignon House apart.

The art of blending: precision and freedom

In Champagne, blending is an art. Here, it is approached like a musical composition.

Perpetual reserve, reserve wines, massal selections — each element connects past and present.

Every cuvée is built on a carefully balanced interplay between:

the freshness of Chardonnay
the structure of Pinot Noir
the depth of reserve wines
the precision of dosage

Nothing is left to chance. Yet there is always room for interpretation.

The Boutillez-Vignon Cuvées

Ternaire – Extra-Brut & Brut: Premier Cru – 70% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir. Built around a perpetual reserve. Balanced, focused and deep. A gastronomic Champagne, vibrant and precise.

Ostinato – Brut: Premier Cru – Chardonnay & Pinot Noir. Partially aged in oak, combining roundness and tension. Complex without heaviness, generous yet refined.

Acoustique – Blanc de Blancs: 100% Chardonnay from Villers-Marmery. Finesse, minerality and brilliance. A pure, focused Champagne, ideal with seafood or scallop carpaccio.

Intonation – Rosé: Pinot Noir & Chardonnay blend. Fruity, floral and energetic. A structured, precise rosé, never sweet, perfect for refined cuisine.

Orchestral – Vintage 2018: Majority Chardonnay from old vines. Extended aging, depth and intensity. A cuvée designed for special occasions and cellaring.

Demanding and responsible viticulture

The House works with deep respect for terroir and natural balance.

Massal selections, precise parcel work and controlled aging — every decision aims to reveal the identity of Premier Cru Villers-Marmery.

Time is an ally. Some cuvées age for several years before reaching their full expression.

Why choose Champagne Boutillez-Vignon?

Because it does not try to please everyone. It strives to be true.

True to the terroir.
True to balance.
True to emotion.

A Champagne of precision, but also of sharing. A Champagne made for great tables, meaningful moments and suspended celebrations.

Which cuvée should you choose?

For a pure and mineral expression, choose Acoustique – Blanc de Blancs. For a structured, gastronomic style, Ternaire is ideal. If you enjoy refined rosé, Intonation delivers precision and elegance. For aging and grand occasions, Orchestral 2018 offers depth and long-term potential.
