Diversity and Uniqueness of Terroirs : Champagne Bauget-Jouette
Champagne Bauget-Jouette is a family-run estate with a legacy spanning over five generations of winemakers, dating back to 1822, originating from the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay. Located in Épernay, the heart of Champagne, the Bauget-Jouette brand was developed by Gaston and Suzanne Bauget (née Jouette). The current vineyard covers 12.5 hectares, primarily situated across the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay, Sézannais, Vallée de la Marne, and the Côte des Blancs (Premier Cru).
The diversity and singularity of these historical terroirs, spread over more than thirty plots, enable the production of a wide range of Champagnes, mostly crafted with Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Pinot Noir, though cultivated on fewer and smaller plots, is also included in limited-edition blends.
A significant portion of the vineyard benefits from cover cropping and soil management, aiming to eliminate herbicide use (including glyphosate) entirely in the near future. The estate is also set to be HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) certified soon. All operations, including pressing, vinification, and bottling, are conducted in Épernay at a historic property dating back to the late 19th century. The wines undergo partial aging in oak barrels and enjoy extended aging after disgorgement.
