Champagne Barbier-Roze, five generations of Grand Cru winegrowers in Verzenay and Verzy
Champagne Barbier-Roze
A family champagne house for five generations, in Verzenay and Verzy, Grands Crus of the Grande Montagne de Reims. A vineyard exclusively Grand Cru, mostly Pinot Noir. Reasoned viticulture (rule of the 3 zeros), certified HVE and VDC.
Set in the prestigious villages of Verzenay and Verzy, the house of Champagne Barbier-Roze embodies the history and demands of the great Champagne terroirs. These two villages are among the very first Grands Crus classified in 1873. A champagne producer for five generations, the family carries on a know-how passed down with constancy and humility: the adventure began at the end of the 19th century, when Charles Barbier married Clemence Roze in 1874, and the champagnes were sold under the Ch. Barbier-Roze brand from the 1890s. Today, Benoit Barbier, the fifth generation, continues this family story, faithful to the spirit of an authentic, independent champagne rooted in its terroir.
An exceptional Grand Cru vineyard
The vineyard of Champagne Barbier-Roze stretches exclusively over the Grand Cru terroirs of Verzenay and Verzy, in the heart of the Grande Montagne de Reims. These slopes are particularly renowned for the remarkable quality of their Pinots Noirs, the emblematic variety that forms the backbone of the cuvees. About a third of the parcels are planted with Chardonnay, bringing freshness, finesse and balance to the blends. This complementarity makes it possible to craft structured, elegant champagnes, faithful to their origin.
A reasoned viticulture guided by the rule of the 3 zeros
Convinced that the quality of champagne is born first and foremost in the vineyard, Benoit Barbier chose a demanding reasoned viticulture: zero insecticide, zero herbicide, zero added sulfite at disgorgement. Yields are deliberately controlled to favour the ripeness of the grapes, treatments reduced to the strict minimum and the most impactful products excluded. The estate is certified HVE (High Environmental Value) and VDC (Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne), and a member of the Champagne de Vignerons network.

The Pinot Noir of the Montagne de Reims, backbone of the cuvees
On the Grands Crus of Verzenay and Verzy, Pinot Noir gives structured, deep champagnes for ageing: it forms the backbone of most of the Barbier-Roze cuvees, from the Grand Cru Classique (95% Pinot Noir) to the Réserve. Chardonnay, about a third of the vineyard, brings freshness and finesse, up to the Sélection Blanc de Blancs, 100% Chardonnay. Pinot Meunier completes some blends, such as the Sélection and the Blanc de Noirs, for accessible, harmonious champagnes.
